Subject: A little celebration of 65 years From: Will Fly Date: 27 Aug 09 - 02:56 PM I hope 'Catters don't mind a little celebratory video for my recent birthday (65) last Sunday 23rd August. I recently commissioned and had made a beautiful tenor guitar from my old friend, fellow band member, musician and luthier, Ian Chisholm. He turned up at my birthday session with an exquisite matching mandolin. So, being the shameless show-off I've always been, I put together a little video to demonstrate - not my inadequate performance - but the beauty of Ian's instrument making. Just a bit of fun... You Are My Sunshine |

Subject: RE: A little celebration of 65 years-Will Fly From: Will Fly Date: 28 Aug 09 - 02:54 AM Can you tell us a bit about the technical aspects of your recordings? What hardware and software do you use? Do you do the video only on the final "take"? Well, first of all, many thanks for the kind wishes in the posts above - they're very much appreciated from one who's a relative newbie on the Cat. As for the recording technique, there's a detailed set of pages about it all here, but - to save wading through it... I shoot the video for each instrument on my camcorder and simultaneously record the audio on to an 8-track, using a Shure SM58. I put the mixed-down audio stereo track into Audacity on my Mac Book Pro and clean it all up as the final audio track for the video. I then feed the audio as an mp3 file into iMovie. I then import each of the video segments as separate files into iMovie, and cut and dissolve the relevant bits to create the video - which is then topped and tailed with credits and a fade. Then I mix it down to a reasonable .mov quality for YouTube. Joe - I hope that's a useful résumé. |
