Doc Boggs had a great song called "I Hope I Live a Few More Days". I especially like the banjo part. Can anyone give me the words. The first line seems to be

I hope I live a few more days and god will give me grace.

It seems to be a lament/complaint of a jilted lover.

Thanks

Murray

I have this at home on the Smithsonian Folkways re-release, and will check it out for you in the next day or two.

Subject: Lyr Add: I HOPE I LIVE A FEW MORE DAYS (Dock Boggs

A great album, a great man. A couple of these lines have given me trouble. But...
I HOPE I LIVE A FEW MORE DAYS
(said to be from relatives of his)

I hope I live a few more days
And God will give me grace
I'll buy me a bottle of Ethermotor(?) drops
To wash out the seeds of face (?)

Oh, I will come in but I won't sit down,
For I want (won't?) hardly time,
I truly understand you love another one
Sweet, are no longer mine

Oh, now you are a married man
A-living at your ease,
While my poor heart is broken and troubled
No pleasure do I see.

Oh, you know what you promised me
When you gave me your right hand
Said if ever you did marry in this wide world
That I should be the one (s).

Oh, now you are a married man (repeat earlier verse)

Oh many other girls they dress so fine
And off to church they'll go,
While me, a poor girl has to stay at home
And rock the cradle and sow.

Oh many other girls they drive fine cars
And off to the store and buy
While me, a poor girl, has to stay at home
And rock the cradle and cry.

First of all Peter, I am glad to know about the Smithsonian re-release. I will put that on my shopping list.

The line "To wash out seeds..." might be "to wash your deceitful face". That fits anyway.

Murray

The Folkways Dock Boggs 2-CD set is a serious bargain. CDNow has it for $14.99 - 50 songs. Click here and take a look
