Subject: Bow Mites Cure From: GUEST Date: 01 Sep 09 - 09:44 PM I'm wondering if anyone might have a cure for fiddle bow mites. You know those pesky rascals that chew off the hairs. A simple one that I'e found is to put a hankerchief full of raw cedar shavings in the case. Anybody got any others. Dave |

Subject: RE: Bow Mites Cure From: AnneMC Date: 02 Sep 09 - 02:05 AM Well, I never knew fiddle bows had such problems! Mites that chomp on the hairs, indeed! A garden magazine I get had recommended some herbs to a reader who had a problem with a lorrikeet with feather mites - place sprigs of mite-repelling herbs in its cage. Suggested were tansy, rue and wormwood. The reader has reported back that the herbs had worked very well, and the mites are gone, and the bird no longer looks moth-eaten and dull. Worth a try in your fiddle case, can't do it any harm. AMC |
Subject: RE: Bow Mites Cure From: open mike Date: 02 Sep 09 - 02:46 AM I believe bow hair bugs are not actually mites, but the larvae of the carpet beetle, a critter that eats natural fibers of all kind..wool, horse hair, and other stuff. http://www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-carpet-beetles.htm http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7436.html http://www.talkbass.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-352415.html http://www.johnsonstring.com/Bitten%20By%20Bug.htm http://ezinearticles.com/?Whats-Eating-Your-Violin-Bow-Hair?--It-Might-Be-Bow-Bugs&id=2461787 |
