I was trying to find this thread -- nothing under "secret santa", nothing under "secret", finally tried "hints"! Did find last year's hints thread and found that we were about the last to post there... lordy, at least we're consistent!!

5. What books have you really been wanting? The latest Torchwood books, or classic series Doctor Who books. I have all the ones from the new series.

6. What type of music do you like? Rock, metal, pop, soundtracks... that sort of stuff. I'm a big Proclaimers fan but only have their greatest hits.

7. What CDs have you really been wanting? Doctor Who and Torchwood audios. I've got Pest Control, The Resurrection Casket and Lost Souls. Anything read by David Tennant. Music-wise, there isn't anything that springs to mind.

8. What movies have you been wanting? (specify VHS if you don't have a DVD player) Classic series Doctor Who. I'm trying to boost my collection. I don't have any Hartnell or Troughton ones, so those would be good.

4. favorite authors/ type of book? Mostly I go to the library a lot, but see below. I like mysteries and fantasies. {A lot of mysteries in which the protagonist is a knitter seem to flow through here.}

5. what books have you really been wanting? A local cookbook or songbook or any knitting or beading pamphlet or mag would be enjoyed.

6. what type of music do you like? Most folk, but especially patter songs, humor, stories with a twist.

Whew! Just got notification of my Secret Santee from Liz, which reminded me I haven't posted my hints for this year! There's not a whole lot of change since last year, but here goes anyhow:

1. What is your age range? Let's just say I'm retired, and take advantage of senior citizen discounts at every opportunity...

2. Gender? Female (how many males do you know named "Nancy"?

3. Do you have a favorite color? Love purple, and also earth tones, other than orange.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? Mysteries, thrillers, historical fiction. Big Patrick O'Brian fan -- but I already have all of his, plus a biography (thanks to a previous Secret Santa!). Love recorded books! Song books are great, as are cookbooks.

5. What books have you really been wanting? As a retired public librarian, I'm pretty well able to find whatever I want...

6. What type of music do you like? Most folk music, especially anything with good harmony.

I really like getting things from my Secret Santa's abode -- your music or that of your friends, local travel brochures, maps, rocks or shells, food -- even crumpled local newspapers used as packing material. (I have in my possession Divine's obituary in Spanish that was in a crumpled newspaper protecting something I had mailordered. )

60 to 60 (unless you're counting by decade -- then I'm six). I'm not old; I'm retro!

Blue, green, blue green, purple, bluish purple, magenta. I avoid orange except in things I eat (and the occasional accent flower.)

Uh, I need books like cats need wings, but books on your vicinity's early gravestones or gravestone carvers (or stonework, from standing stones to cathedrals and walls) would be a welcome addition to the library.

5. what books have you really been wanting?
Alas, probably out of your price range, as well as mine.

Everything from Louis Killen to Louis Prima. Prefer getting something by you, your friends or someone you think I should hear.

Maps, hippocampuses, rubber squid, rubberstamps and printing paraphernalia, skulls and interesting bones, rocks, shells, green men, mermaids...I think I collect collections.

Gravestone rubbing and research on gravestone carvers, learning how to cut slate, gardening, making bead jewelry, rubberstamp art, needlepoint...avoiding housework.

6. I like all kinds of (mostly) acoustic music from many regions of the world. I love learning from source singers' recordings in any language; transcripts welcome. Folk chorus arrangements of beautiful songs are especially welcome as I can take them in to the folk chorus I sing with. I read music and learn by ear. I like lullabies.

7. What CDs/cassettes/LPs, etc. - Mudcatters' music (especially yours), Folkways, traditional source singers- anything offered at Camsco, Greentrax, Brian Peters, frailed banjo, outstanding bodhran, ... I'm hungry for good music. Second hand albums are fine.

10. I collect hand tools, stones, flower and veggie seeds, fabric, poems, carved wood, mittens, regional knitted or lace samples, stories about a person's life, interesting letters from friends and strangers... Small, useful or lovely things; nothing costly.

11. What are some of your other hobbies? We run a small farm growing fruit trees, perennials, wildflowers, seedlings, unusual vegetables. We make or grow much of what we need. We have bantam chickens. I like to make things, take photos, paint, sew, bake, and build drystone walls and pottery. I've run a steam engine and I write songs and poetry. I've been reminding myself how to play guitar, fiddle, harp, pennywhistle and tasteful bodhran following a close encounter with an ice patch last spring. I look for unusual songs and hymns to sing in local churches.

12. I will happily wear what I am given in friendship. I like to make beaded and silver jewelry using glass, gemstones, etc. Pierced ears (one per ear), special silver charms...

13. I'm married to a talented and loving husband. We work very hard. We love to travel but haven't been able to for a few years. Simple is good.

14. I get migraines from flickering lights. A dose of dark chocolate helps greatly! Unless you plan to mail poison ivy no allergy problems. I'm not very good at self-pampering; I'm willing to learn.

Love Purple, Black, Greens & Blues - definitely not pink!

Books: Have read all Terry Pratchett's and have a good collection of his Hard-back First Editions (apart from Discworld 1st & 2nd books - but they're nearly into 4 figures now so please don't worry about searching for them!!). Any science fantasy, dragons & wizzzzards, fiction, thrillers (have read almost all of Clive Cussler and Wilbur Smith, Alexander Kent, Barbara Erskine, Carlos Castenada to name a few), crime etc. Second-hand is preferred, dogeared and with broken spines are perfectly acceptable, shows they're recommended!

Musical taste: Traditional Folk, a capella singing, contempory folk, female voice - anything that's good, stuff you've done, anything of Catters, ones with good songs to try!!

Not into movies or DVD's - rarely get time in front of the TV.

Size: still Large - I like chocolate a lot and I've become quite good at ice-cream cocktails recently (still)....

Am accumulating an interesting collection of crafty earrings, pierced & dangly!!! Silver-tone seems to go best with my favourite colours. Seem to have accumulated stones from various places & beaches... Love Cats, Birds, Chocolate (too much), gardening, plants & trees, secret gardens, interesting places, earth powers, intuition & friendship.

Allergies yes, mainly alkaline-forming foods (have never eaten fruit so that's a definite negative). Luckily there aren't many other negatives in my life apart from the food!

Happy to read any packing material too, as long as it isn't technical stuff that is!

My preference information hasn't changed much since last year, but I would like to say that in this economy, I don't want or expect you to lay out much-needed gelt for bought gifts or items that cost much to ship.

.......Oh, which one? It's green (the yellower greens, especially). I am also fond of the redder oranges, wines, and warm browns. Black is good, too... I am not a fan of blue or purple.

4. Favorite authors/type of book? I read extensively. I like fiction -- whether it's serious, or a good mystery, an intriguing sci-fi (preferably not war-oriented), or a peculiar fantasy. I've received several tiles from people over the years, and small wood carvings. Those always find a place on a shelf, on the wall, or near my computer. I can see two of them from here.

He was in the United States diplomatic corps in the first part of the 20th century, and he apparently collected tales as a hobby. He had the knack to make anything readable. Oh yes, any books by Arthur Waley (Secret History of the Mongols, Monkey, and others). He translated many fine obscure oriental classics.

Humor, humor, humor -- the punny, the lyrically clever, the offbeat, the darkly strange (but not the profane). To give you a sample of my tastes, I already have the complete collection of Tom Lehrer songs, most of Lou and Peter Berryman's CDs (see #7), some Spike Jones and Stan Freberg, a CD of songs from Monty Python, and the "My Son the Box" collection of Allan Sherman songs. I'm not a big fan of modern jazz, rap, acid rock or New Age music -- I'm more of an "Old Age" type (Irving Berlin and Gershwin and Cole Porter show tunes, bluegrass, Appalachian). Sea chanties are great, too. I would be interested in acoustic-music CDs by singer/songwriters who are from your area and/or who you really like.

I'm not really a cinema-movie watcher. However, I'd like any DVD of the TV series "Monk" (in a format that will play in the US -- "region 1"). I'm also seeking VHS or DVD recordings of the "Postman Pat" British animated series in "region 1" format (which are hard to find -- everything seems to be in "region 2" or "region 4" format!!!).
