Dear Community,

I've been searching for quite a time (Google wasn't helpful, I tried hard!) for a way to convert a MIDI-file into tin whistle-tablature.

Is there an online application or anything similar (possibly working on Mac) out there?

Cheers!
John

I've a feeling that this has been discussed previously, so hang on until someone with a better memory than I have gets here...
Depending on what the tune is, someone here may already have done the conversion.
Quack!
Geoff the Duck.

Then another tech toy that did chords for mandolin, guitars etc.

why o why don't i save these things to my favourites?

http://sniff.numachi.com/

thanks for that guest

John

go to link, click on letter that you song begins with, find the song in list, some songs have midis, may have whistle notation but you have to select the key of your whistle.

if you have created or downloaded a midi and don't know what the tune is, I don't know how to help.

http://sniff.numachi.com/ is Yet Another Digital Tradition, a mirror of our own Digital Tradition Folk Song Database which cleverly converts our tunes in to a number of different notation formats.

This Google Search (click) will lead you to lots of interesting sourses of tin whistle tab.

There's a Mudcatter named Pavane who has created a program called Harmony that does all sorts of things - but I can't figure out whether it does tinwhistle tab.

Go visit http://www.tabledit.com/. Their software, TablEdit can import MID files, and can do :

TablEdit is a program for creating, editing, printing and listening to tablature and sheet music (standard notation) for guitar and other fretted, stringed instruments, including mandolin and bass.

Additionally, TablEdit, while designed for guitarists, by guitarists, is not limited to guitar like other Tablature programs. Through ongoing consultation with experts on other instruments, TablEdit has developed support for harmonica, mountain dulcimer, diatonic accordion, drums, violin, tin whistle, recorder, Xaphoon, autoharp, pedal steel guitar, and banjo (even taking into consideration the special aspect of the fifth string).

TablEdit can open/import ASCII, MIDI, ABC, MusicXML, Bucket O' Tab, TabRite, and Wayne Cripps files. Files can be saved in TablEdit format or exported to ASCII, HTML, ABC, RTF, MIDI or WAV formats. TablEdit runs on Windows, Macintosh, and Windows Mobile (PocketPC.)

Thanks, George,

but TablEdit is a ugly, difficult-to-use and insufficient application - I cannot even read the tabs, because the guitar-tab always interferes with the fingering. But thanks anyway, it definitely was a step in the right direction, now we need to get further ;-)

I'd be glad for any other help, thank you!

Cheers!

If you can convert the midi to abc, then abcm2ps has an option to output tin whistle tab.

OK How's about this one: http://abc.stalikez.info/abcex.php ABC Explorer also will read MID files and shows notation, AND Add in Tin Whistle Table in between the staffs. Seems like it's a nice program, in both English and French. Written by fellow in France, says 1.3.6 is current version. It also uses the abcm2ps and other such programs and can print out sheet music to printer or as PDF files, can create a booklet of tunes. Seems quite nice

I don't play but the illustration looks like fingerings in the tin whistle tables between the staff.

Hello

I met this problem too, and I created http://www.playintune.net to solve this issue...
Just post your midifile, and the flash animation will show you how to play it.
Tansposition is automatically done.
You don't have to install any kind of software, everything is done online.

Yoann
