Oh, dear. Thanks for that link, 999. May he find comfort and healing, in whatever form it may take.

Well, that explains why I never heard back from him! I would love to hear this song again, but the melody is gone from my memory. Fun to see the thread here again!

Yes, he did, but the link in a previous post (by Allison, 25-Oct-11) is to the website of a *different* Chris Caswell. I've seen him play and that's not his photo.

Oh, my- what a wonderful surprise to find this thread (thanks, Joe, for alerting me to it!). I have sent an email to the address on his website and hope to find out the source of this song at last!

Subject: ADD: Farewell to the House (Caswell?)
From: GUEST,Rebecca Armstrong

Hi Allison ~ Just came across your post while looking for more verses to this song. Here is what my sister, Jennifer Armstrong, remembered of it (and she recalls it being attributed to Chris Caswell - though I can't find it listed on his website. Anybody else know anything?)
Rebecca Armstrong (rdaconnect@gmail.com)

FAREWELL TO THE HOUSE
by Chris Caswell (?)

Farewell to the House – Remember its blessings;
Take leave of the roses and lilies also;
Go past the fields that as children we treasured,
For we live now beyond all we know.

Chorus:
May we find home, home, wherever we roam;
Though night and storm lie between us.
Home, home, - the morning will come,
With friends to restore us again.

Here's to the stories that cling to its chimneys;
Here's to the dances stepped out on its floor;
Here's to the families and friends that its sheltered
Whose shadows forget not its door.

Chorus

So here I am at wonderful Pinewoods Camp in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and I've just heard a lovely song. The singer has never been able to find the source of the song, so I turn to you, my esteemed Mudcat friends.
The chorus changes pronouns, but mostly goes like this:
    (May they/you/we find: Home, home, wherever you roam
    Though night and storm lay between us
    Home, home, morning will come
    With friends to restore us again.
