Hi folks,

For fifteen years the folk club with the best chorus singing in Sheffield has been RAISE THE ROOF on the second Thursday of every month (except August) at the Red Deer Pitt St.

BUT - following the recent closure of the Red Deer - Ron & Jenny have found a (temporary?) home for us upstairs at The Fat Cat - Alma Street (S3 8SA).

Excellent beers and plenty of safe car parking outside and round the corner in the old Brook Shaw car park on Russell Street. Two minutes from the bus stop on Shalesmoor and about five minutes from the Shalesmoor tram stop.

So see you there on 10th September - from about 8:30.

Red Deer? Shut? Shame

Still, the Fat Cat is a good replacement as a boozer.

Good luck in the new venue.

Thanks, Foggers. Glad to hear you'll most likely be there, even tho (unfortunately) I won't be (am still in the US, even tho I was supposed to be back by now), but I'm sure it'll be a good sing.

FolkieDave, the Red Deer's management have told us that a new licensee has taken over & that the Red Deer "is now open as usual" -- but by the time RtR organisers had this news, we had already made arrangements to move it to the FatCat for the Sept sing, and it seemed better/less confusing to stick with that than to try to change things back again.

However, we do hope to be back in the Red Deer for October -- and for the forseeable future. Will be sure to let everyone know when it is finally sorted...

Unfortunately, I only found this after my daughter and I turned up at the Red Deer tonight. The landlord has had no contact with the club, but is keen for the established groups to continue. Somebody should give them a call to let them know what is happening. (07954 292523).

Guest, so sorry we weren't able to get word to you before you went to the Red Deer this evening. Unfortunately, there were some folks we simply did not know how to reach with news of the change (we were hoping a post on Mudcat might help with that...).

Many thanks for the landlord's phone no. If you PM me with some way to contact you, I'll make sure you're informed of the situation for October.

YY (Vikki Appleton Fielden)

And apologies from me too, Hugh.
You were the only regular/irregular singers whom we couldn't contact,
either verbally or by phone/email.

I had in fact called the Red Deer three times this week, but no-one answered, so I was unable to verify that it was indeed open.
I will call again.

Last night there was general agreement that we should return to the Red Deer in October, but this will depend upon whether the new manager will demand an increased charge for the room.

Watch this thread for news when we have any, but we'll also email where possible.

We hope to see both of you in October,

Bob

I've spoken to the Red Deer manager. (Thank you Hugh for his mobile number.)

There is a fault on the pub's phone, so they don't know when someone is ringing.

I've confirmed our dates for the rest of the year.

So once more we'll be at the Red Deer, Pitt Street, on...

8th October
12th November
10th December (special guest tba)
and hopefully ever after on the second Thursdays except August.

Everybody welcome to lead a song or two, join in choruses or just enjoy the friendly ambience.@

Thanks Vikki and Bob,

I should have realized that there would be a mailing list I should get myself on. I will pm Vikki my contact details.

Looking forward to October, though my daughter won't be coming for the forseeable future as she will be going off to study.

Hugh

Bob, thanks -- well done.

Hugh... when you 'said' (above) you & your daughter had gone to the Red Deer, I thought that was you. Sorry to learn that was our last chance to hear her sing for a while -- she's a lovely singer.

To be honest, there wasn't (up until last night, anyway) actually a Raise the Roof mailing list (not an official one, anyway), but most of us have been attending for so long that we know how to get in touch with each other -- and if we don't, then we at least know someone who does... We actually asked each other if anyone knew how to contact you, but unfortunately, no-one did. That was one reason we thought it would be a good idea to post on Mudcat. Sorry we didn't think of it sooner -- you'd have had a better chance of seeing the thread if we had. Sincere apologies for not managing to let you know...

On the positive side, I've got your contact details now & have passed them on to Bob to add to the list he's compiled, so you'll definitely be "in the loop" from now on.

Noreen, I'm definitely planning to attend Malcolm's do -- so it'll be great to see (and hear!) you there -- it's been so long!

Just a quick post to remind folks that the Red Deer is up & running again, and RAISE THE ROOF is booked in there for the remainder of 2009.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again back in our customary location -- especially you, Hugh!

T'would be brilliant to see/hear you there, Ray! (and thanks for the refresh)

Although... am wondering if some helpful Mudelf would change the thread title for us, as it might lead to misunderstandings -- the "September" in question was in 2009. Better yet, perhaps this thread could be closed, and this thread: Raise the Roof: Sheffield singaround turned into a perma-thread?

Just occurred to me it would be a good idea to post our particulars -- in more detail -- on this thread (particularly if it's going to close).

At Raise the Roof we sing songs with choruses or refrains
that everyone can pick up and join in on.
Anyone is welcome to lead a song or two -- or --
if you prefer, just sit back and join in on the choruses...
It's up to you!

We meet every 2nd Thursday, except in August
(2012 dates: Jan 12th • Feb 9th • Mar 8th • Apr 12th • May 10th • Jun 14th • July 12th)
8.30 pm upstairs at the Red Deer
(a REAL ALE pub on Pitt Street, S1 4DD)

for more info:

or call: 0114 288 4778 or 0114 275 1954
or e-mail: -vikki-@-srama.demon.co.uk- (hyphens inserted to fox spambots)

Come join us for a good sing!
