"Under American Skies"; Uh-huh; saw them at the Ark in Ann Arbor. Dave Carter and Tracy opened for them. Either act would have been more than worth the drive. We heard Dave Carter's "Gentle Soldier of My Soul" for the first time that night. Dave died sometime during the following week. I've had several chances to hear Tom in person, and will take any more I can get.

Tom's song about Sarah Palin is worthy of Tom Lehrer at his best. Tom is a great

Tom Paxton is still writing great songs and I THANK THANK THANK Wesley for giving me the words to Verdigris. A beatiful and touching song (do you have the chords, by chance??)

I've enjoyed Tom any time I've seen him in the last twenty years, and he's always done a variety of old and new songs. However, my one disappointment in Tom is that he does NOT take requests at his concerts, and I once requested Verdigris and he said it wasn't on the playlist. Sigh. But I enjoyed the concert anyway, of course.

Tom Paxton can't be beat. I'd like it if he did more topical songs these days, but that's just me. A few years ago he collaborated with Anne Hills on a cd called "Under American Skies", and toured to plug it. Those appearances were memorable.

The COmedians & Angels album which I was just about to mention has got be a classic in so many ways--melody, insights, and great lyrics. Pretty much all of his albums are great but another favorite of mine in these later years is Wearing The Time.

I really don't think anyone can beat Tom for consistancy of song quality. He writes touching songs, light delightful songs, disturbing songs, but, year in and out, good songs.

If I remember rightly he did Fareweel tour no 1, then Farewell tour no 2, then told us all on his website "Forget the Farewell tours - I'm having a ball" and so I've seen him twice since then!
Keep it up, Tom!

BTW, it is that date again this side of the pond: I have done "The Bravest" at our local festival as it always occurs close to 9/11. My thoughts go out to anyone affected by it.

I love his song "Honor of Your Company" from his 1994 "Wearing the Time" album. Which happens to be the some album "Along the Verdigris" is on. Several other good songs on that album too.

I also like "My Favorite Spring" (baseball song) and "On the Road from Srebrenica" from his 1996 "Live for the Record"

Tom Paxton has done enough in the way of Great songs that he doesnt NEED to worry about any follow up ! As Laurel (Open Mike) said , he does a lot of Short Shelf Life songs , and his 9-11 Fireman songs is is in there with the best recent songs !

I have to agree with Rog Peek. I was privileged to see Tom Paxton, along with the late, great Mike Seeger at a local concert about five years ago. He was in fine form on stage and a real approachable fellow off, as was Mike.

Tom Paxton's greatness only BEGAN in the 1960s. I've collected most of his recordings and seen him perform 15 or 20 times since and would never miss an opportunity.

He's certainly not lost his talent for songwriting, or his sense of humour. He still tours, so if you should get a chance to see him live, you'll not be disappointed.

he is active today...writing and performing.

one of his specialties is topical songs..
he calls them "short shelf life" songs
which talk about the news.

he did an incredible tribute to the fire
fighters of 9-11 called the Bravest...

I was a big Tom Paxton fan in the 60s/early 70s. However, for whatever reason, I just didn't follow his recordings after that. Now, he wrote some great, great songs in that early period. Great love songs, great kids' songs, and terrific social comment songs. But did he, later on, ever write any "classics" to match those early songs? If so, please point me in the right direction.
