Subject: Blitherscrum Festival a great success!
From: Georgiansilver
Date: 07 Sep 09 - 04:41 PM

Blitherscrum Folk Festival was a great success this year and I believe we should thank the organisers and the stewards for the sterling jobs they did in making the Festival a success.
With top Folkies like Vinegar Butt, Jezlo, Florrie Maliavalley, Georgie Papadopoulos, and groups such as Airport Contention, Speeleyed Stan and the The Tanned Randy Band, how could such a Festival fail. Not to mention the visit from Cosmo the high diver who astounded us with his feats.....
Sad to say the camping area was flooded as expected but those on airbeds survived the flow of putrid water which passed through Blitherscrum Sewer.
The "Who can frisbee their bodhran the furthest" competition was won by Limmy Teaning whose new CD "Stuff You" is selling well in the clubs.
Once again, thanks for all the support from those who came and we look forward to an even better year next year.

Damn! I missed it. This working for a living really interferes with life. There must be a bunch of rusty banjos after the flood. Any rusty banjo players survive?

I am so glad we had a concertina to rig up as air bed inflator and tent bailing pump.
Tuning the tin roof of the main concert hall to represent a huge steel drum was a great success in our opinion.

I was disapointed to miss the workshop on 'How to get Swine Flu' as hear some of the pigs were supposed to be very pretty. The trampoling on a bodhran session went down well though.

Must remember to add Blitherscrum to the list of venues with working piano and warm welcome for pianists.

I went to both the 'Banjo tuning' and 'Subtle Banjo' worshops, but felt rather lonely, being the only one at both. I would have gone to the 'Do you have a Martin?' but as I only have a 'Martine' I think I would have been shunned. Was I wrong on this?

Just back from the post Blithersrum rejuvenation gig we hold here every year.
Heard a cracking song about Boxes

Little boxes on the hillside etc.
caused some uproar with a few in the audience saying they were going home and moving and some others saying they had been out of their boxes for some time.
There was confusion at the start of the session because there was a high wind and the event poster blew away so folk werent sure which venue to attend.
Seems the notices were all stuck up with ticky Tacky and all looked just the same same.

Tim Leaning 'a shame the Gay Pride Stage got so out of hand though, who care who has the Camper Van?.'

Excuse me, but I care very much who has me. And I'll have you know that I didn't make a SINGLE penny from all of those who I took in........

Love and peace

No-one heard of the "sound desks for comfortable listening" workshop!

Fell on deaf ears I fear. It was not held in a room - but a suitable volume.

Went to the "definition of a folk song workshop"……………….still there and going strong after 199 hours….apparently death may be the only acceptable way to be excused from the discussion…….although we have yet t to discuss the definition of death….luckily it is item two on our agenda……….

I also heard that the 'Bodrhan Amnesty' was a good success with many many handed in and made safe by the 'Stanley Knife Workshop'. Many of the sad people involved are now in therapy using many new techniques such as learning the banjo or voting Conservative at the next general election.

Enjoyed hearing some've the tribute bands & artistes, such as The Complainers performing their big hit, 'I'm gonna see 500 miles, glad I went to Specsavers!'.

All Blocked Up leading some interesting ceilidhs.

The Dole Foundation representing unemployed musicians from ethnic minorities & banging home their message!

Mr Leaning, just been away for a couple of days and only just read your posting.

Don't worry, you didn't offend me at all!!! (I have been known to spend lots of time with MCFat around Beverly Folk Festival time, and believe me, that renders anyone un-upsettable.)

As for your offer of management, well thanks, but I think that Jim would have first call on that job, cos I owe him.

Best wishes
K/van

Hey, nice one. The height of sophistication with a saucepan as well as a frying pan. If it was a real heavy date then yes, the video clip is about right.

Otherwise, for festivals, its normally just what you can get into a frying pan - eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, fried bread, beans maybe, followed by tea (at breakfast), beer - (5 minutes after breakfast), or red wine (after noon).

Otherwise we just rely on whatever the Moor and Coast have got on offer!!!!

I also appreciated the alternative workshops which rather than focussing solely on music related items, offered opportunities for participants to learn more about such diverse topics as horticulture, philosophy & handicrafts.

Workshops included:

Gregor Mendel's practical hints & tips on the propagation of peas

Louis Pasteur's 'How to make milk based yogurt safely [without contracting cowpox!]'

Otto Lillienthal's Kite & Hanglider studies

Felix Mendelssohn's 'How to enhance your organ!'

Gerardus Mercator's 'Application of GPS as an aid to map reading'

to name but a few

I also felt, that this year, the childrens entertainments were nothing short of spectacular.

These included,

Ballooning with the Montgolfier twins

Cubism with Erno Rubik

Build your own tree house with Lord Greystoke and Jane
