Subject: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 18 Sep 09 - 03:56 AM If you've been following the stolen fiddle thread, you'll know that Tommy's fiddle was stolen from his car while he was visiting London last week. This was not covered by his insurance. One of the people who came to Tommy's Lewes workshop suggested a whip-round towards a replacement. Dr. Beau Webber of Kentfolk, who arranged Tommy's UK tour in 2007 and organised a workshop and concert for him in Kent this time, has set up a dedicated PayPal Account for anyone who would like to contribute. Beau writes: 'People can enter a short message to Tommy, that we can send on to him. I already have a button on KentFolk at the bottom of the web photo report, and another on its own donation page. Here is a direct link.' Valmai (Lewes) |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: GUEST,PL Date: 18 Sep 09 - 08:24 AM Wasn't the original word it was a fiddle borrowed for the tour, in other words not his own? |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: GUEST,PL Date: 18 Sep 09 - 09:26 AM Sorry, I see where I read the original wrong, it was my impression he started the tour on a borrowed fiddle. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: TheSnail Date: 18 Sep 09 - 09:49 AM Well, yes he did. His fiddle was stolen on Thursday night and he borrowed one for Friday night and another for Saturday and Sunday. You wouldn't have known though; he still played brilliantly. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 22 Sep 09 - 05:15 AM Beau Webber has posted a photo report of Tommy's tour. Contributions to the fiddle fund are coming in. Remember that Tommy's playing owes some of its magic to the fact that he is far from worldly. Valmai |

Not sure what to think of this remark, I don't doubt your good intentions but there's a whiff of the patronising there I feel. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 22 Sep 09 - 06:09 AM My apologies for clumsy wording; Tommy's playing is beyond my powers to describe. If I was that way given I'd be talking in terms of spirituality. Valmai |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: open mike Date: 23 Sep 09 - 10:10 AM aawww..i had first read the title as fiddle found.. sorry to hear it is still missing. Does auto insurance cover contents of cars? what sort of insurance is recommended for instruments?? homeowners? renters? (and how many musicians can afford insurance??!!) I hope that he will get another one soon. Glad to hear that folks are helping. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: John MacKenzie Date: 23 Sep 09 - 10:26 AM Well although I'm sad to hear of this loss, I must say that I have insurance which covers my guitars in a car, attended or otherwise, provided they are not in plain view , and I would never leave them in a car unless I was insured. It's the commonest form of theft in some areas. |

Subject: RE: Tommy Peoples fiddle fund From: Barry Finn Date: 23 Sep 09 - 12:04 PM Insurance dones't replace an instrument that's of special personnal value, it'll only cover the costs or at least some of the costs but it won't buy back your instrument. When I was living on boats I'd say that most of the world travelling sailing community that I came in contact with couldn't afford insurance, they put what extra money they could into heavier anchors, over kill lines & other such items that would make them & their vessels more secure.
