Subject: Lyr Add: Sean-Dún na nGall From: GUEST,Donal Date: 19 Sep 09 - 03:09 AM This is from the songbook 'Abair Amhrán' published in Belfast (undated) by Comhaltas Uladh. Sorry, no English words. Sean-Dún na nGall Is grá geal mo chroí thú, 'Thír Chonaill, a stór, 'Do luí mar bheadh seoid ghlas san fharraige mór, Ó gráim thú i gcónaí go moch is go mall, Is molfaidh mé a choích' thú, a Shean-Dún na nGall. Níl contae in Éirinn níos deise ná thú, Níl daoine sa domhan níos fearr cáil is clú, Ná tá i dTír Chonaill abhus agus thall. Ó! Bláth bán ár dtíre thú, a Shean-Dún na nGall. Tá teanga ár sinsear á labhairt ann go fóill Chomh milis binn blasta le hamhrán nó ceol Na n-aingeal sna Flaithis gan smachtú gan smál, Ó gráim go deo thú, a Shean-Dún na nGall. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Gaelige Words From: Thompson Date: 19 Sep 09 - 04:06 AM I'll take a crack at Englishing it: You are the bright love of my heart, darling country of Conall Lying as would green silk on the great sea Oh, I love you always, early and slowly And I praise you always, ancient Donegal There is no county in Ireland nicer than you There are no people in the world of better fame and repute Nor is there in the country of Conall, in whatever region Oh, you are the white flower of the land, ancient Donegal. The tongue of our ancesters is spoken there still As sweet, pleasant and delicious as song or music Or angels in Heaven without stain or fault Oh I love you forever, ancient Donegal. |

Subject: RE: Req: Sean-Dún na nGall (Gaelige)/My Old Donegal From: GUEST Date: 23 Sep 09 - 09:06 PM Donal and Thompson, This is the song alright. Go raibh mile maith agaibh. |
Subject: RE: Req: Sean-Dún na nGall (Gaelige)/My Old Donegal From: Thompson Date: 24 Sep 09 - 03:20 AM Oh, by the way, the words " Is Gra Geal Mo Croi Hu, Tir Conaill A stor" mean "You are the bright love of my heart, darling land of Conall". (Tir Conaill or Tirconnell is often used to mean the county of Donegal; in this song I think the writer is distinguishing between the county and its capital, the town also called Donegal.) |
Subject: RE: Req: Sean-D?n na nGall (Gaelige)/My Old Donegal From: GUEST Date: 16 Nov 17 - 04:35 PM Mo Shean D?n na nGall Written by John Clinton O'Boyce in May 1902 Is gr? geal mo chro? th?, 'Th?r Chonaill, a st?r, 'Do lu? mar bheadh seoid ghlas san fharraige m?r, ? gr?im th? i gc?na? go moch is go mall, Is molfaidh m? a cho?ch' th?, a Shean-D?n na nGall N?l contae in ?irinn n?os deise n? th?, N?l daoine sa domhan m?r n?os fearr c?il is cl?, N? t? i dT?r Chonaill abhus agus thall .?! Bl?th b?n ?r dt?re th?, ' ? shean d?n na ngall T? teanga ?r sinnsear Da labhairt ann go foill ; Comh milis binn blasta Le habhrain na ceol Na n-aingeal 'sna flaithis, Gan smacht? gan sm?l- O gr?im go deo th?
