i tried audacity but it wouldn't do it for what i was listening to.
it works very well for recorded stuff although i have sussed out the settings i like yet, more guess work and fiddling with things.

I have Audacity on my Mac. Also Audio Hijack will record any streaming audio, and is available for both Mac and PC.

I was going to mention RadioSure when Mudcat went down, but I see it still hasn't been mentioned. http://www.radiosure.com/ I prefer it to Screamer by a bit. Check it out.

If you have the settings right, audacity will recording anything that plays through speaker, including online music, and music input from a turntable, microphone, or cassette deck. I haven't found a recording or sound editing job it can't do - and it does a great job of it.

The Davee.com - records whatever comes through the speakers of your computer.

It is a simple way to capture things like police and fire dispatches and phone conversations....anything through the speakers.

Just to add... there are several 'radio' applications for Windows that allow you to listen to streaming broadcasts, and optionally, save what you hear.

Screamer is a free one

Raima is not free, but does a LOT (It originally was...I still have the older, free version)

Nexus if free, bur requires registration (It also says it searches for songs, as well as playing stations

Iradio is also free but gives you a toolbar to get to radio stations.

There may be more by now. I use Screamer the most.

thanks guys, i am happy with applian. don't quite know how i got it, something to do with firefox add on and downloading other things as well. but it works well for me, well i understand how to do it, more like!!!

thought i would refresh this as it is a brilliant tool, so others could see it too.

I freqently use internet "radio" and do "captures."

You should probably know about Vuze as well--tons of streams, downloads, and a search engine. You use it to find and download TV programs, as well. It does have ads, though, and you have to be careful, because there is a great tendency to download a lot of stuff you're never going to even use, and it is really easy to fill up a hard drive--

jeri, thanks so much i did it before, but missed out downloading the player too. now i have it on the tool bar, so can record vidoes or just the sound. GREAT STUFF!!!

now i have sorted it, i have converted several youtube videos to mp3 and into my library.
so now i am a very happy pixie.

it allows you to save what you
hear on streaiming sites..the
free version only lets you save
5 min. at a time.

You can right click them on a PC and 'save as'.

If you have Firefox, you can get an add-on called 'Download Helper' that lets you save audio files or videos such as what's on YouTube. You can then convert them to Windows Media files and put them on CDs or DVDs. It's free, although unless you register, you get a little icon on a not terribly annoying place on the window. In Firefox: Tools/add ons/get add ons.

i have asked this on the folkwaves thread but i will ask generally too.

is there a programme i can get that will allow me to download radio programmes, then allow me to put some songs into my libarary?

i would love to be able to, as it would save me a fortune!!!
