Subject: Lyr Add: Ramona From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 22 Sep 09 - 02:15 PM Search still down. Here is another old favorite of mine. Lyr. Add: Ramona L. Wolfe Gilbert and Mabel Wayne, 1927 Ramona, I hear the mission bells above Ramona, They're ringing out our song of love. I press you, caress you And bless the day you taught me to care I'll always remember the rambling rose You wore in your hair. Ramona, When day is done you'll hear my call Ramona, We'll meet beside the waterfall. I dread the dawn When I awake to find you gone. Ramona, I made you my own. (Repeats) Ramona, When day is done, you'll hear my call Ramona We'll meet beside the waterfall. I dread the dawn When I awake to find you gone Ramona, I made you my own. From the film starring Dolores del Rio and based on the Helen Hunt Jackson novel. |
Subject: RE: Video link add: Ramona From: Genie Date: 22 Sep 09 - 02:37 PM Thanks for posting the lyrics and songwriter info, Q. I frequently get requests for this song at retirement homes, and though I'm familiar with it, I didn't know the lyrics or tune well enough to add it to my repertoire. Here is a YouTube video of "Ramona" performed by Blue Diamonds. Their arrangement is a bit more pop-rock-ified than the original from the movie or the early recordings, but it does show the tune. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Ramona From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 22 Sep 09 - 03:51 PM Genie, the song was written in waltz time. Also on youtube is Dolores del Rio, original soundtrack. A Much better rendition. She had a rather heavy accent, thus didn't survive the transition to talking films, except in this classic film, and the great musical, "Flying Down to Rio" (Rio by the sea-o) where she played a Brazilian. She continued in films, but mostly in Mexican productions. Ramona Del Rio ?"I need you, my own" - she sings this instead of "I made you my own." I think it is better. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Ramona From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 22 Sep 09 - 04:01 PM Also on youtube is Argentine legend Carlos Gardel singing in Spanish. Ramona Gardel Both this and the Del Rio recordings include the introduction, which I did not post. |
