Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 06 Jan 10 - 08:22 AM Of course, I spoke too soon! Cancelled due to snow! Oh, well the half-hour walk each eay helped to lose a few of the extra Xmas calories ( as did the snow shovelling this morning!). RtS |

Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 11 Nov 09 - 08:43 AM I seem to be excelling myself with typos in these thread! Should be Ascot NOT Aasot! Beer is now £2.70 (I get 10% off that as a member). Ate there last night, food is still good as well. House band regularly Blues is Truth, Grey Cat seem to have bailed. RtS |
Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 11 Nov 09 - 08:39 AM Well, we still aren't getting many punters, last night no-one turned up to jam with the band either. Come on, there must be some fans around who go to the monthly blues at South Hill Park who couild come along to Aasot? No need to worry- I don't perform and leave the Washboatd of Mass Destruction at home! Upcoming guests great blues drummer Sam Kelly and guitarist Robin BiBi. RtS |
Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 14 Oct 09 - 12:29 PM I would have reviewd last nigh't session with Grey Cat Blues but got there to find they'd cancelled at the last minute. Still, I was told I'd get into Sonny Black tomorrow (Thursday) for half-p[rice as compensatio.> I'l review that in the Bill Boazman thread. RtS |
Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 07 Oct 09 - 09:00 AM whoops, posted mid-type! ....I was asked if I played and was honest enough to decline. As the style during the evening was very much Hendrix/ Clapton though featuring blues standards (Hoochie Coochie Man, Red House, Crossroads etc), I doubt washboard /kajoo would fit in, even if i was up to their standard. All who contributed to the jam were very good IMHO. I hope we get mor punters next time. Only moan the beer is now £3.30 a pint which willl imit my consumption! Next week (13th Oct)the other house band Grey Cat Blues is featured, I'll report back. Don't forget, Sonny Black (Bill Boazman) acoustic set next Thursday 15th Oct. RtS |
Subject: RE: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 07 Oct 09 - 08:54 AM First night was last night. I omitted to say it is in conjunctionwith new 24/7 jazz radio station launching Oct 12th: www.ukjazzradio.com/briansoundy.html for details. Brian is also musical director of www.radiobracknellforest.com our (very) local radio station. Last night he was there as bass guitarist with house band Blues is Truth featuring Ian McHugh on guitar and vocals and young Bennett Soundy on tenor and soprano sax. During the evening they were joined by another bass player and drummer, half a dozen guitarists and a couple of harmonica players. Several of the above doubled vocals. All very promising. Sadly only about 6 non-playing audience, all but me came with a musician. |

Subject: Blues back at Jagz Ascot UK From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 23 Sep 09 - 08:43 AM Rejoicing in the Skiffler household, after a two year gap Blues are back on Tuesdays at my local jazz club,Jagz, next to Ascot rail station. 7.30pm starting on 6th October. Bands Blues is Truth and Grey Cat Blues alternate with addd guest stars like Sam Kelly, Papa George and Robin BiBi. Sessions to be followed by jam session (so should I take the washboard? Probably not, don't want to scare away the audience: when the last series finally folded I was the only regular punter). Mrs S can get rid of me once a week again and I can sneak in a few pints (I can walk there in 30mins so no need to drive!), especially as door price has dropped to £3.50 or £5.
