Haven't updated this for a while, except under the Bill Boazman thread. This Autumn at Jagz, Ascot: Bill(Sonny Black) on 6th October, Mick Relph blues band 3rd Nov., Michael Messer 24th Nov. Reading South Street has Dave Raphael band 20th Oct., 24 Pesos on 17 Nov., Michael Messer + Second Mind Band 15 Dec. Manfreds (incl half the Blues Band) Camberley 29th Sept. I'll also be going to Humphrey Lyttelton band in Windsor 1st Oct.

I despair of the locals! Only 4 of us there last night. Bill's daughter,Kelly,(for whom he wrote Kelly's Blues came with her electric piano and joined in- nice voice.
Blues night will be Thursday in the New Year and Tuesday will be open mike in the front bar. Details on the web page as usual.

If you were coming to the Michael Messer gig tonight DON'T. It's been cancelled as band & organiser have travel problems (I walk so would have been there!).

Great night on Tuesday as expected with Lewis and Sonny, floor contributions included great harp from jam regular Big Azza. Next Tuesday jam with A Bit on the Side ,17th Nov the great pianist Ben Waters & his band with Lewis Hamilton (one of the Young Turks) on slide guitar and probably Sonny Black (one of the older greats)also in support and on 23rd Nov Big Azza (harp) and his band Delta Groove. ...currently closed for August. Starting on 7th September Sonny Black (Bill Boazman) will be hosting a monthly acoustic blues workshop & jam. He's teaching for an hour 7-8, followed by a jam, followed by a performance by himself and surprise guests. Previous weekly blues jam with Blues is Truth may not revive but am awaiting news of replacement. See separate thread on new monthly Wednesday Roots & Folk night run by Folking Live's Artree Music.

Plus every Tuesday Blues is Truth houseband and jammers (free to musicians, which counts me out!

Final gig of 2009 on 29th December with guest Pat West was good and a few more punters turned up as well as jammers. New Year sessions starting again tonight (Tuesday 5th), if the threatened snow doesn't put the kibosh on it. Come along and jam or I might be forced to sing.

I seem to be excelling myself with typos in these thread! Should be Ascot NOT Aasot! Beer is now £2.70 (I get 10% off that as a member). Ate there last night, food is still good as well. House band regularly Blues is Truth, Grey Cat seem to have bailed.

Well, we still aren't getting many punters, last night no-one turned up to jam with the band either. Come on, there must be some fans around who go to the monthly blues at South Hill Park who couild come along to Aasot? No need to worry- I don't perform and leave the Washboatd of Mass Destruction at home!

whoops, posted mid-type!
....I was asked if I played and was honest enough to decline. As the style during the evening was very much Hendrix/ Clapton though featuring blues standards (Hoochie Coochie Man, Red House, Crossroads etc), I doubt washboard /kajoo would fit in, even if i was up to their standard. All who contributed to the jam were very good IMHO. I hope we get mor punters next time. Only moan the beer is now £3.30 a pint which willl imit my consumption!
Next week (13th Oct)the other house band Grey Cat Blues is featured, I'll report back.
   Don't forget, Sonny Black (Bill Boazman) acoustic set next Thursday 15th Oct.

First night was last night. I omitted to say it is in conjunctionwith new 24/7 jazz radio station launching Oct 12th: www.ukjazzradio.com/briansoundy.html for details. Brian is also musical director of www.radiobracknellforest.com our (very) local radio station.
Last night he was there as bass guitarist with house band Blues is Truth featuring Ian McHugh on guitar and vocals and young Bennett Soundy on tenor and soprano sax. During the evening they were joined by another bass player and drummer, half a dozen guitarists and a couple of harmonica players. Several of the above doubled vocals. All very promising. Sadly only about 6 non-playing audience, all but me came with a musician.

Rejoicing in the Skiffler household, after a two year gap Blues are back on Tuesdays at my local jazz club,Jagz, next to Ascot rail station. 7.30pm starting on 6th October. Bands Blues is Truth and Grey Cat Blues alternate with addd guest stars like Sam Kelly, Papa George and Robin BiBi. Sessions to be followed by jam session (so should I take the washboard? Probably not, don't want to scare away the audience: when the last series finally folded I was the only regular punter). Mrs S can get rid of me once a week again and I can sneak in a few pints (I can walk there in 30mins so no need to drive!), especially as door price has dropped to £3.50 or £5.
