Subject: Jeff Warner at Edinburgh Folk Club
From: Johnny J
Date: 23 Sep 09 - 11:37 AM

Wednesday 30th September 2009

Venue: Pleasance Cabaret Bar - 8:00pm
Admission: £8.00 (£7.00 concession)

"With warmth, humor and understated scholarship, Jeff Warner connects 21st century audiences with the music and everyday lives of 19th century people.

He presents musical traditions from the Outer Banks fishing villages of North Carolina, to the lumber camps of the Adirondack Mountains and the whaling ports of New England.

His songs have "the stamp of authority and real experience" (Tykes News, Yorkshire, UK). He has honed his craft in front of audiences across the country at festivals, museums, clubs and schools. His songs, rich in local history and a sense of place, bring us the latest news from the distant past

"Firsthand experience, married to complete mastery of traditional [music], and allied to a natural voice and dry, understated humor in the American vein of Missourian Harry Truman and Mississippian Mark Twain." The Chronicle-Herald, Halifax, Nova Scotia

"He is a talented musician on a variety of instruments, but that is completely overshone by his total love of, and involvement in, the songs he sings – he inhabits a song in a way which very few singers can do. One of the best evenings of the year."
Molly Mockford of Folk at the Royal Oak, Lewes, UK

Jeff appeared at EFC last year for the first time and was absolutely outstanding. He is a very warm and friendly performer too, an extremely knowledgeable exponent of American folklore, talented multi instrumentalist, but....above all....very much the consummate entertainer.

If you have never seen seen Jeff before, then you should make up your mind to do so... and soon!

Jeff gave us a smashing all-day workshop and evening performance at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club on 19th. September.

Dont' talk to him about car hire firms, though. He's suffered.

Valmai (Lewes)

If you've never seen Jeff, go and see him - absolutely marvellous. Our crowd at the Old Oak Concert wouldn't let him leave.

Great to see so many Jeff Warner fans out there. It's a pity you all live in Edinburgh.
:-)

Had the pleasure of meeting up with, and listening to Jeff, at Whitby this year. A true professional, and a master of the jig-doll too ;)

I've been passing the message on to my friends back up home to go and see him if they can. It'll be a great night.

John MacKenzie, you should see/hear a first grade class go silent with awe over that jig doll! It's a miracle!

It's a 'limberjack' (at least that's the name I know it by).   I don't know how Jeff does it, but he can get the arms going in opposite directions.
