Hi, Michael-
That Sony CD is just the music, isn't it? I'd like ot hear the entire play at least once, and then listen to the music more than once.
I guess I could get the script - scripts for both plays are available in our local library. What I've heard of "Cake" was very interesting.

There was a CBS-TV version of Of Thee I Sing in 1972, with Carroll O'Connor,Cloris Leachman and Jack Gilford. I'm not aware of any earlier films of Let 'em Eat Cake. There's a fine CD recording (Sony M2K42522) of both of them, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas, with Larry Kert, Maureen McGovern and Jack Gilford. I think it's currently out of print, but should be locatable and is worth the effort.

I'm listening to this now, and really enjoying it. Now I want to hear or see Of Thee I Sing. The music is readily available, but does anybody know where there's a recording of the entire performance?

The musical satire LET 'EM EAT CAKE (1933) by George and Ira Gershwin, George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind has recently had its premiere UK production, and was broadcast on BBC3 radio today, Sep 26, 2009. This broadcast will be available there for 7 days. LET 'EM EAT CAKE was the sequel to the more popular OF THEE I SING (1931), with many of the same characters, but the situation has darkened considerably, with economic crises and the threat of dictatorship by "blue shirts" in the USA.
