Her husband was the pianist, Juan Torra, who died in 1982.

Was her husband's name Dennis Sanders?

I was all set to hear her in concert many years ago and something came up and I wasn't able to go or perhaps I simply couldn't get a ticket. She was very popular in classical circles and tickets to reasonably priced concerts went fast when she performed. I also have several of her recordings on CD.

She was wonderful. At 4'9" tall the odds should have been stacked against her as a pianist, but she had a handspan much wider than most pianists much bigger than her. She constantly exercised her hands to achieve that reach. She was fabulous in the music of Albéniz and Granados but she was excellent in Mozart too.

"Family friend Gregor Benko confirmed her death to the AP... He said de Larrocha had been in poor health for two years, since breaking her hip.
A spokesman for the Quiron hospital, where she was admitted some days ago, said she had died from cardiorespiratory failure shortly after 2300 on Friday."
Surviving are a son and a daughter.

Well, Googling her and "86", I learned that she had been hospitalized with a broken hip, and at 86 that's enough to start a lot of other things, or to make preexisting problems worse.

My pianist wife wants in the worst way to know what the cause of death was. Anybody know?

OK, I meant no disrespect by spelling her name wrong. Sorry.

Please, let's get her name correctly:
Alicia de Larrocha.

I have several cds of her playing. Her "Nights in the Gardens of Spain" is one I could not do without.

Well I hope you are wrong mate.
She was a wonderful pianist, and is a great loss.

This probably won't get much mention in the news. Too bad. She was 86.
