Subject: Folk it Up? From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 03 Oct 09 - 01:46 PM Jim Eldon takes pop songs and does strange folk things to them. Bluddy YouTubes down at the mo' but I'll post examples later when they're up again. What song would you like to hear 'folked-up', or what song would you like to have a go at folking up? I'd like to hear Steppenwolf's 'Pusher' for some reason. |
Subject: RE: Folk it Up? From: Bainbo Date: 03 Oct 09 - 01:50 PM Ade Edmondson & The Bad Shepherds do it, too. I've always thought Bat Out Of Hell was a bit folky, what with a lover coming back to the bedroom after a violent death. |
Subject: RE: Folk it Up? From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 03 Oct 09 - 01:52 PM Interesting point Bainbo. I'd not thought about appropriate lyrical content from other genres.. |

Subject: RE: Folk it Up? From: Jack Blandiver Date: 03 Oct 09 - 04:29 PM I've gathered up most of Jim's YouTube stuff into a playlist reasonably entitled The Godlike Genius of Jim Eldon. Otherwise check out The Jim Eldon Appreciation Society thread. Jim was doing Bat Out of Hell 20 years ago; his transplanting of the Boss's Dancing in the Dark into Thatcherite England remains a master stroke: Stuck in Maggie's England, They'll be carving you up all right; They say you got to stay hungry Well I'm just about starving tonight - Working for the Grocer's Daughter, I just can't feel proud of myself, We came like lambs to the slaughter Now I'm just stock upon her shelf. |
