Interesting site. Someone else asked the same question but no one has posted the answer. I guess they'll have to come to Mudcat to get it. :)

It seems unusual that it would be so difficult to get the name of a piece of music for a modern film, but the language barrier was probably the largest hurdle. Of course, now that I know what it is, what to do with it? Is there an album's-worth of music by this performer/group to pick up somewhere? Or only listen online to this one song when the mood strikes.

GUEST,Found it! you were SOOOO close! I left a message on the facebook page for the film company and they answered with a link to the same site, but go to "Ancient Crystal." You'll find two entries, the Intro and Fantasy. And that IS IT!

No, we're not there yet, though I can see why you would think so. Here is the Rare Exports video again - it has less of the keyboard, and it has a vocal component and a darker tone. The one you found could be related - often times composers have a sameness in sound between some types of music. You've come closer than anyone else. I should search again. Very high piano or keyboard, but a drum section, woodwinds, or good synthesizer of all of this.

It's in Wikipedia. It talks about a film that spun off from the earlier short, and "Will be released on DVD and Blu Ray Disc on October 25, 2011." But I haven't seen it, I don't know if it uses any of the same music.

I've been trying to find this song for a long time. It's in the Filtrete commercial but also the trailer for "Rare Exports" and the Mercedes-Benz Winter Event commercial.

I believe the song is Tinker Spell - Fantasy 2. Go to www.extrememusic.com and search Tinker Spell.

Hope this helps!

I heard the Filtrete ad again--I'm certain it's the same piece. No luck poking around the filtrete.com site to find anything about their ads. I'll try again later.

I saw the name of the company, I didn't think to search on them, but I should have. Thanks, Gargoyle. And I'm glad this question gave you a pleasant hour of browsing. I'll go take a look myself. Thanks for the link.

I probably need to find out who did the filtrete commercial, because one assumes they got permission to use the music. Another track to follow. Commercial ad companies. Oy.

The Press Kit is available at http://www.woodpeckerfilm.fi/

There homepage is a very interesting collection of shorts. It would almost lead you to beleive the music and choreography were done by Regina "Saanko Jaada Yoksi"

I spent a fun hour browsing their material. Angel Films one of their subsidiaries produced one of my favorite interactive training films "Whip the Worker."

The sound designer for part I and part II is ...Tuomas Seppänen.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

It certainly sounds like it should have been written by John Williams--it's his style,I feel. Then again,it is very reminiscent of the type of incidental music used in epics like Lord of the Rings, especially as it features what I call "grunting vocals" as emphases during certain portions ; it's probably called "Visigoths From Hades In The Valley Of The Snow-Morons" - ( I thought I detected a subtle nuance of Prokoviev-like troika-bells in there ).
But of course,as usual,I could be wrong !

The "Rare Exports" video of Father Christmas has been around for a couple of years now, and this evening I finally realized that it was the music from this film that has been used in a current commercial in the U.S. for a filter company (Filtrete). I've been looking around and I can't find a credit, artist, or name of the piece anywhere. It is quite wonderful.

I can't read (translate) all of the credits on the end; one can usually take a guess at these things but it looks like television station type credits. Has anyone else heard this piece in a different context where the information is available, or does someone know the composer/performers?

Thanks!
