The Jon Hayward Memorial Trust was been set up in memory of a well known Shropshire folk musician who sadly died in November 2006. Jon was passionate about music and always enjoyed sharing this with others. He particularly loved to see children developing their musical ability. He was a true Shropshire man who was born in the county and spent most of his life here. Consequently family and friends felt the Trust to be a fitting memorial to him.

The Trust aims to give some financially disadvantaged children in Shropshire the opportunity to pursue an interest in music. This could be by helping parents with a up to 50% of the cost of musical instrument or singing lessons, by meeting part of the cost of instrument hire, or contributions towards the cost of other musical activities. We are now in our second year of funding students throughout the county.

I've no hope of getting to Much Wenlock, because I'll be MC'ing the concert at Haddenham, Bucks. But the artiste I'll be introducing is John Kirkpatrick, so there will be a Shropshire connection!

All best wishes for the event - and it was wonderful to hear Southernmost of Dales in the Faulkner Bar at Sidmouth this year!

Hope to join my sister at the Faulkner next year, my daughter was only 8 weeks old this time round and my son's just turned 2. I haven't ventured back to Sidmouth without Dad yet.

Concert made £1775 for the Trust; that's about 8 more bursaries.
