Subject: dulcimer update From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 06 Oct 09 - 10:10 PM A while ago I asked where I could find a selection of fretted dulcimers for sale, because my present dulcimer, a McSpadden, was getting on my nerves. It seems that buying a new one would be a fairly complicated operation, so I decided what the heck and shipped the instrument to McSpadden. Jim Woods was very nice about it and did some adjustments. I have it back and it's nicely in tune again. I no longer find myself tensing neck and shoulder muscles as I move up the fretboard, anticipating a sour tonality. Jim said some of my frets were flattened. (!?) The bridge looks new as well, though he didn't say anything about changing it. I'm posting this to remove any impression I may have made that McSpadden makes a mediocre product. I'm happy with my instrument, and I've added 'The Whiffenpoof Song' and 'Did You Not See My Lady' to my repertoire in the few days it's been back home. |

Subject: RE: dulcimer update From: Arkie Date: 06 Oct 09 - 10:52 PM Jim and the rest of the crew at the McSpadden shop take pride in their work and do make every effort to keep their dulcimers on the road. If the dulcimer is played a lot the frets will wear down and anything made out of wood responds to humidity and temperature so it will need care from time to time. Glad you got good service and your dulcimer back. |
