We are currently trying to expand our database with details of Services/Activities for 0 -19 year olds in the North East Lincolnshire area. Steel Pan Jammin'

The Ropewalk, Barton upon Humber
10am – 4pm

This is a fantastic one-off opportunity to learn the steel pans from world class pannist and tutor Wendy Brown from The Sage Gateshead. The workshop will focus on accessibility of the instruments, session plans for beginners, arranging music for pan, improvisation on pan, how to buy steel pans, linked musical games and exercises, and progression routes. You will be taught in a fun group environment and take away great ideas for use in your own music leading.

MusicLeader Yorkshire in partnership with Humbersound is delighted to be continuing our work in the Humber region with the third annual programme in our Music CPD Network. This programme is open to anyone who wishes to attend and should provide lots of tasty morsels to entice music leaders of any age, experience and background.

The network meets over 4 days and practitioners will have the opportunity to access training from leading music professionals and share practice, contacts and project information. Anyone is welcome –just book a place and come along!

Creative Lesson Planning
Saturday 6th February 2010
The Quality Royal Hotel, Hull
10am – 4pm

Through discussion and practical activities, this workshop will explore lesson and session planning in a music education setting. Denise will look at ideas such as learning objectives, building flexibility into your plans, assessment for learning, as well as practical tools and tips. The day is aimed at community musicians, workshop leaders, practitioners and musicians who want to gain a better understanding of lesson/workshop planning. It is not for teachers who already have QTS and currently working in schools, unless you need bringing up to date with planning initiatives. Denise has been a music teacher for 27 years. She currently runs all schools' programmes for Southwark Music Service, and works as Education Consultant to the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

This will be a fun, practical session in which participants will use common materials to create some very simple, yet surprisingly effective musical instruments. You will also explore everyday household objects in order to unlock the often surprising sounds hidden in them! The workshop will look at simple ways of creating and devising music with the new instruments and the sounds that have been discovered. All materials for the workshop will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring along anything that makes an interesting sound!

Global Grooves – Journey of the Orixás
Saturday 12th June 2010
The Quality Royal Hotel, Hull

In this full day master-class participants will study the rich African heritage of Brazilian music and culture.
Following the journey of the ancient African gods the 'Orixás' , students will learn about the birth of Afro-Brazilian music via the Atlantic slave trade and touch on several key areas of the development of Brazilian Culture. By the end of this course participants will have a good understanding of the background of Brazilian Carnival and music traditions with songs, percussion arrangements and stories that can be used in their future delivery in schools and professional music workshops. Professional percussion instruments and basic learning resources will be provided.

Each day costs £25 to attend (£50 for non MusicLeader members), but book a place on all 4 days for only £80 (£160 for non MusicLeader members). Members and Associate Members of Humbersound qualify for an additional discount of these days. For more information on how to join Humbersound, please contact:
