Yes quite true. The Orcadian accent is really easy on the ear and very tuneful. A bit hard to understand at first but once tuned in it becomes instantly recognisable anywhere. Go and see the Wrigley sisters. you'll not be disappointed.

Wish I could be there too.

In addition to the superb music, I love to hear them speak - I find the accent wonderful. Years ago when they were at Saffron Walden FF I was going to go to Jennifer's fiddle workshop; I haven't a clue at all about the fiddle, but I thought I could just listen to her talk some more!

Combining mastery with mischief, tradition with modernity, and technical maturity with youthful freshness, Jennifer and Hazel Wrigley are two of the brightest stars on today's international folk scene.

Born, raised, and now re-settled in Orkney, the twin sisters began performing together - Jennifer on fiddle, Hazel on guitar and piano - when barely into their teens. Twenty years later, their fan-base stretches around the world, built up through many tours and festival appearances in Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Far East.

This universal audience appeal reflects both the calibre of their music - a sparkling blend of traditional, contemporary and original material, invigorated with jazz, blues and ragtime flavours - and the effervescent charm of their performances. Their recorded output too (six albums to date) reveals their assurance and sophistication, with their own compositions, chiefly written by Jennifer, making up an ever-greater share of their repertoire.

With both lasses having now settled back in Orkney their attention has turned to managing the 'Reel' – the sisters' Centre of Music on Castle Street in Kirkwall. The centre has experienced phenomenal success in the few years it has been open, to the extent that it has outgrown its original home, and so is soon to be moving to the building formerly occupied by VisitOrkney, next to St Magnus Cathedral.

Wrigley and the Reel sees Jennifer and Hazel perform alongside two renowned Orcadian musicians – guitarist Stuart Shearer and Ian McKay on double bass. As musicians they've known and respected each other for over two decades, resulting in a group that delivers a sound as fresh as it is measured.

THE INVERNESS COURIER - 'Island sisters in perfect harmony'

THE GLASGOW HERALD - 'Jennifer's multifaceted fiddling - ranging from coquettish twists to full-blooded expression-as well as her consistently high-quality tunesmithery. All of which Hazel matches with judicious guitar or piano accompaniments'

Last time it was a full house and we would expect even the least adventurous local folkies to come out of the woodwork for this gig. We ought to have tickets on sale this Wednesday but you can also contact The Paddy One to ensure entry...
