It's a bit rich that LT is still accepting subscriptions and stating on its newly revamped website that the magazine is published every 2 months. Those of us with subscriptions have had the promises and the hazy excuses but it's decidedly dodgy to seek new subscriptions when not fulfilling those already paid. How the print magazine can ever again be viable when there's no discernible schedule for advertisers is a mystery. They've presumably missed the festival advertising for this year...

Would it not be better to HELP than Hinder?
Pete and Heather run a great magazine lets all see what we can do to keep it going instead of snide sniping. We are not dealing with the likes of Pickering F F

I have great admiration for all the work that Pete and his team have done over the years on LT and I have written quite a number of articles for the magazine over the years. However, they have got themselves into an unenviable position at the moment.

I would think that it is very unfair to call Guest Andrew's comments "snide sniping". He seems to be making perfectly valid comments. If the LT team are constrained from producing magazines at the moment, then they should not be seeking new subscriptions and advertisements on their website.

Their last circular which I referred to above indicated that by Mid-March they were hoping that the next issue should now be out by the end of this month. It was not and now we are in the middle of April. Under these circumstances, I feel that by now there should be an explanation to subscribers on the website and by email circular. It is a matter of keeping your customers and advertisers on-side by keeping them informed.

Thanks, Vic.

Guest OLDNICKILBY accuses me of "snide sniping". Hardly. I responded in a similar manner to a direct e-mail from Pete Heywood back in January. He asked subscribers for comments on the newly launched website. I mentioned privately then that I didn't think he should be inviting subscriptions for a magazine which isn't currently being published or continue to claim that it actually is published every 2 months. I didn't get a reply and three months on LT is still making that claim. I didn't get a reply. I really do not think that is good enough. In any other field it would be a matter for trading standards but us folkies are fairly good at cutting enthusiasts a bit of slack. There is a limit, though.

I'm still waiting for the next copy of Folk Review, I still have a few to go on my subscription. I think the last one I saw was around 1980, but what's 30 years between folkies ;-)

For the record, issue 84 of Living Tradition finally arrived in the mail this morning. 68 pages (including about 25 pages of adverts). Featured articles on Jeff Davis, Archie Fisher, Fidil, David Oliver, Bob Wood, Sark Voices, Bram Taylor, William Kennedy Piping Festival, etc., and the usual CD review pages.
