Subject: N ational Book Award From: GUEST,Jerry Rasmussen Date: 19 Oct 09 - 10:31 AM I just received notification from the National Book Awards that my book, The Gate of Beautiful: Stories, Songs and Reflections on Christian Life was one of six finalists in the Religion category for books published in 2009. I owe a lot to Mudcat because several of the stories appeared on here, under Bus Stories or in the Kichen Table thread. It's a great encouragement, and I may even sell another book or two. My thanks to all on here who have encouraged my writing. Jerry |

Subject: RE: N ational Book Award From: Waddon Pete Date: 19 Oct 09 - 04:42 PM Well..what happened there? An empty post!? Must have hit the button too soon. Still, we're all celebrating round the kitchen table with copious coffee biscuits and, ooh look, pavlova! Well done Jerry! |

Subject: RE: N ational Book Award From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 19 Oct 09 - 06:59 PM Thanks for the congratulations. Just to clarify the award, There were seven finalists chosen out of all books submitted in the Religion:inspirational category for 2009. I have no idea how many books were submitted and judged but a professional writer friend of mine was very impressed because she says that all the bigest power-house publishers submit their works. If that's the case, chalk one up for David because my book was self-published. I submitted the application last February and I'd forgotten all about it. This and five cents will buy you a nickle cigar, but it still feels might good. Folks what sits around the kitchen table will see most of my second book as it is being written. It'll be done when it's done and not a minute sooner... probably take a year or so, but that's to some extent not within my control. I have to live it first before I can write it. Jerry |
