Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Oct 09 - 11:49 AM I thought Crispy Burk was Ok up to and including "Don't pay the ferryman". Seems to have gone off the rails when some bint in crimson ran into him. Did you know EJ did another version a year later when Mother Theresa died? "Sandal in the bin" :D (eG) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 22 Oct 09 - 11:35 AM On the Utube clip above, he actually sings UP in heaven tonight. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Oct 09 - 09:27 AM Allmusic.com lists the title as THERE'S A NEW STAR UP IN HEAVEN TONIGHT (emphasis added). So does Amazon.co.uk. Now, Echo, if you told me you checked your own copy of the CD, I might believe you. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: The Borchester Echo Date: 21 Oct 09 - 06:37 AM The ditty is entitled There's A New Star In Heaven Tonight (not "up"), as I indicated earlier. You can all now see why I delined to reproduce such drivel when it's readily googlable. Good grief, somebody's going to import it into the DT next . . . |

Subject: Lyr Add: THERE'S A NEW STAR UP IN HEAVEN TONIGHT From: Georgiansilver Date: 21 Oct 09 - 05:02 AM And here are the lyrics... Best wishes, Mike. Shadows darken and the day is done And I cannot believe that it's true and you are gone You were always here beside me You gave so much as the queen of hearts To those without love You were their voice when they could not speak A touch for the dying And as we say goodbye I can hardly see For the tears in my eyes You are shining like a million suns And there's a new star up in heaven tonight I wonder if you ever knew How much you were loved And in the darkness of a lonely room Were you empty inside? As you fade away it's like a light Has gone from the world But I am sure that there is a place Where it will burn on forever And as we say goodbye I can hardly see For the tears in my eyes You are shining like a million suns And there's a new star up in heaven tonight And there's a new star up in heaven tonight |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 21 Oct 09 - 04:24 AM "Personally, I thought Mr Dwight's rewrite of his Candle In The Wind for Ms Spencer was an insult to the memory of Ms Mortenson for whom it was originally intended." Yes absolutely, a totally lazy and tasteless cash-in I thought. I mean why buy brand new funeral flowers for every death that comes along over the years, when you can just recycle the same old plastic wreath for the funeral of each loved-one? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: The Borchester Echo Date: 21 Oct 09 - 03:06 AM Personally, I thought Mr Dwight's rewrite of his Candle In The Wind for Ms Spencer was an insult to the memory of Ms Mortenson for whom it was originally intended. C de Burgh is unremittingly pants, as are the sickly lyrics of both Goodbye English Rose and New Star in Heaven. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 21 Oct 09 - 01:51 AM Thank you for the replies, I'll ignore the detrimental comments on the premise that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but some people just like to foist them on others at any given opportunity. whb |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Oct 09 - 12:10 PM Or indeed about the ghastly Di |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Smedley Date: 20 Oct 09 - 07:44 AM Is it true that the Parisian mortuary attendants on the night of the crash were closing up the body bags while they sang 'Zip-a-dee Dodi, zip-a-dee Di'. Sorry..................... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: The Borchester Echo Date: 20 Oct 09 - 07:40 AM There's A New Star In Heaven Tonight No, I don't know it but from distant memory it's as banal as you might imagine and frighteningly easy to google. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: Smedley Date: 20 Oct 09 - 07:21 AM I wonder if anyone will be brave enough to admit to knowing details of a song by the ghastly De Burgh....... |
Subject: Lyr Req: Chris De Burgh/Princess Diana From: wilbyhillbilly Date: 20 Oct 09 - 07:10 AM I heard this song only once just after Princess Di's death, before Elton John cashed in by altering his version of Candle In The Wind, (which I think was an insult). Chris De Burgh was being interviewed on the telly and had written this as a tribute for Di and sung it live, it was great and I don't know why it wasn't used. All I can remember was, it was something about there will be another star in the heavens, can anyone PLEASE put my mind at rest and come up with either lyrics or title. Now there's a challenge!! whb |
