It's time for the 12th annual Audlem Bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy day, which will be held on Saturday 14th November this year.

As usual, it's to be held in the Shroppie Fly (one of Audlem's three pubs) at 12.30 p.m. til 5.30 p.m. Food is available in all three pubs, and there's a good choice of beers.

It's always been a smallish event, with 30 to 40 musicians each year, but all are welcome.

If you want any further info, you can contact Mal at:- mal_denny@yahoo.co.uk

Don't be put off by the title- if you play fiddle, concertina or tooties, in a bagpipish- hurdygurdyish sort of way, you'll be just as welcome.

We went last year. Excellent day of music. An incredible example of quality and cooperation.

Ah, how I would like to be there, but there's an ocean in the way.

Last year I attended a similar event, The Great Krumhorn Konklave, (held in a bar, of course) where people can play anything that buzzes. Others sing madigals in four parts.   Well, the place had dutch doors, and for a long time, a couple of tough-looking bikers stood on the sidewalk outside, leaned their bulky forearms on the sills and watched, fascinated.

"I will open doors for you, doors to worlds you never dreamed existed."

Best of luck for your Day.

Nigel Eaton once said that you needed a particularly strident voice to be heard over the sound of hurdy gurdies!

Not been any songs in the 3 years I've been there, as far as I can remember. I think it's intended as a tune day, for the instruments that are there....that's what I'm going for, anyway.

It's difficult, though not impossible, to sing while playing bagpipes. I can't speak for hurdy gurdies. But take the event in the spirit intended. If you've got a bagpipipeandhurdygurdyish song, sing it!

Great music, good beer, good atmosphere. Bit of a shortage of bagpipes. Look out for Dylan Cairns-Haworth - he's only about 12 or 13 at the moment, but a great fiddler, also plays hurdy gurdy and bagpipes.
