Subject: Anyone know McGarrigles lyrics?
From: sam@focalpointinc.com
Date: 22 Jul 99 - 10:12 AM

I don't have any McGarrigles music at home, although I once had the LP of "Dancers with Bruised Knees." I read an article some years back about the McGarrigles, which quoted lyrics from a song. They went something like this:

"I remember days when we laughed a lot Times that weren't so good I soon forgot ... Something, Something, Something, ears And here they come, here come my tears."

That's not much to go on, but I know they have some pretty loyal fans. The question is this: What's the name of this song, and on what album could I find it? It just seems like an amazingly poignant breakup song, and (although I'm not breaking up anytime soon!), I'd love to finally hear it. Great thanks to whoever knows.

I have those lyrics somewhere. I'll try to dig 'em up when I get home from work this evening. That's an absolutely lovely song. called "Go, Leave," I think.

The is indeed "Go Leave," by Kate McGarrigle; a song she recorded solo (no Anna, no other musicians) on the first Kate & Anna McGarrigle album (now reissued on Hannibal Records).

This is so cool. When I went to find my lyrics for "Go, Leave," I apparently have lost them. This makes me very blue. But now, I can just hit the blue clicky thing and there they'll be. Very, very good news. Thanks.

I attended a McGarricle concert in the summer of 94'. They sang a French song whose translation was "I have loved you for a long time; I will love you forever." I have not heard the song on their albums. Is anyone familiar with this song or does anyone know whether it has been recorded?

If the French song in question has the refrain:

"Il ya longtemps que je t'aime, jamais je ne t'oublierai"

then its A La Claire Fontaine. It's in (among other places) Folk Songs of Quebec by Edith Fowke and Richard Johnson.
