Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: The Unicorn Man Date: 09 Nov 09 - 12:58 PM Hi Dug, sorry I've just seen your post about The King Harry, St Albans, first Tuesday of month, anything goes sort of thing tunes, songs, stories. Clubs been going now about 15 years, very good, run by Alan and Jenny who are "Run of the Mill" folk duo. TTFN |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: Dug Date: 08 Nov 09 - 07:31 PM Chaotic was always Tony's trademark, as I said. But he looked after the folkies Roger- that's what I'm saying. New management seem OK. BUt as a session-goer what do you actually want from a gaffer? We don't need a red carpet or a michelin-starred three-course meal. Only a bit of leeway, a bit of regard for the music and a bit of time to wind it up at the end. So. Don't trade on your past misfortunes. Come along on Tuesday! See you there. |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: breezy Date: 06 Nov 09 - 04:15 PM Clean slate by all accounts All the best Doug |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 06 Nov 09 - 10:51 AM I've only been there once, for food on the way back from somewhere last year. Food was chaotic. Chef had left & "boss" was "cooking" and staff "daren't" pass on complaints from diners, most of whom were being given refunds for wrong/bad meals! Hope there has been a change for the sake of the folkies. RtS |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: Dug Date: 05 Nov 09 - 07:48 AM Fair enough - Toby was no businessman. But he was a superb supporter of the session. He showed us he loved nothing more than a pint and a song. So -upper class twit or not - that makes him OK in my book. |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: breezy Date: 05 Nov 09 - 07:25 AM So there is hope then |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: GUEST,giovanni Date: 04 Nov 09 - 12:16 PM "Is Toby still operating the B - arms ?" No, Toby took it as far downhill as it would go before disappearing back to that other planet that he came from ;-) |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: breezy Date: 04 Nov 09 - 10:14 AM Hi Dug long time gone by Is Toby still operating the B - arms ? Is the waitress still chewing gum ? And whats the bathroom wall like like these days. The 'outback' image didnt always get the results for the place? Good luck , who knows who might turn up |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: GUEST,giovanni Date: 04 Nov 09 - 06:03 AM but isn't the Brocket Arms now a classy retaurant? I was given to understand that since it reopened it no longer works as a pub. g |

Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: Dug Date: 03 Nov 09 - 11:22 AM OOps. I meant 'pub' of course, not 'pub'. |
Subject: RE: Sessions back at The Brocket, Herts From: Dug Date: 03 Nov 09 - 11:21 AM OK Terry - look forward to seeing you again. Ross - many thanks for this. The session (before the pup shut down) used to be a pretty good mix of tunes and songs. It was on a Friday - so a good night, really, and a good core of St Albans Irish players used to attend. We also got the likes of Theo and co. from Beds, which was great. One night a superb singer blew in all the way from Suffolk. The shift to Tuesday may be problematic for numbers. That's why I'm hoping for a good roll-up for our first one. Thanks again for your support, Doug |
