Something I noted years ago and forgot about:

[Dr. W.J. Hoffman, Bureau of Ethnology, Washington DC, quoting Victor Namoff on
a ceremonial dance of the Aiga-lukamut Eskimo of the southern coast of Alaska]

The participants, numbering about ten dozen, were entirely naked, and after being seated a short time several natives, detailed as musicians, began to sing. Then one of the natives arose, and performed the disgusting operation of urinating over the back and shoulders of the person seated next to him, after which he jumped down upon the ground, and began to dance, keeping time with the music. The one who had been subjected to the operation just mentioned, then subjected his nearest neighbour to a similar douche, and he in turn the next in order, and so on until the last person on the bench had been similarly dealt with, he in turn being obliged to accommodate the initiator of the movement, who ceases dancing for that purpose. In the meantime all those who have relieved themselves step down and join in the dance, which is furious and violent, inducing great perspiration and an intolerable stench. No additional information was given further than that the structure may have been used in this instance as a sudatory, the urine and violent movements being deemed sufficient to supply the participants with a sweat-bath.

But never, under any circumstances, is one to perform "Wild Rover".

Whew, glad we don't have to do that in Chorlton!

Although come to think of it a dog once wandered in and urinated on a table leg during a rousing performance of the Farmers Toast....

What happens, if you suffer from 'shy bladder syndrome'? I guess the afflicted would not be allowed to join the fun and dancing.

I think all singarounds should be a good piss up.

"Dr. W.J. Hoffman, Bureau of Ethnology, Washington DC, quoting Victor Namoff..."

Jack, old son, I believe you have been victimized by a FOAF (friend of a friend) account. If you've ever read books about urban tales, you'd know not to trust a FOAF account.

Some famous FOAF accounts are the iron hook in the car door, the spiders in the up-do, and the ghostly hitchhiker. All them "actually happened to somebody that's personally known to somebody that the teller actually knows."

As for me, I am not prepared to believe that account of 'a dance' at all.

Scatalogic Rites of All Nations By John G. Bourke

Covers this and other rites.

Wonder if Ebbie and KT do this in private? They seemed reasonably well behaved at the Getaway.

gives a whole new meaning to singing "pianissimo".

(so..this only works if everyone in the group are 'peons'?)

Sorry Severn...I beat you to it.

Thanks, SINSULL - I had a note saying "Bourke" in that file but didn't remember what it stood for. That's where the quotation must come from.

They learnt it from early Orcadians who left and sailed west and north a bit.

Are any of you "stench traditionalists" still urining to go back to the old ways?

Were they throwing someone a Golden Shower for their 50th Annadversity?

Well, be thankful! If they'd waited to do the singing afterwards, it could have gone from bladder to verse......

(Sorry, Bill D, I beat you to it......)

Piss & Love, Brethren and Cistern, Piss & Love!

Is this more like unto The Anal Folk Tradition?

(Sorry, Bill! I also beat you to THAT, as well. Probably by at least a mile).

Gee, whiz! Good Taste IS still timeless!.........

Yes, Art, traditions just continue, marking a "passing on" down the line.....

Following, some ancient cussed 'em, no doubt.

Sorry, Bill (Revisited)
