Please help with the lyrics to this song the first verse goes
My heart goes back to childhood days spent in my native glen
Of childish pranks i used to play how happy i was then

I think the air is Spancil Hill Thanks

Where did you hear it? When? Who sang it? Any more information might help to locate it.

There's a song "Clare Island" by the Saw Doctors, Leo Moran & Davy Carton. The chorus goes:

Will you meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
We'll take a ferry out from Roonah,
And wave all our cares goodbye.

Bob Harke of Kennedy's Kitchen added two more verses and it was recorded on Kennedy's Kitchen's first CD (2003).

If this is the song in question, I can post the words.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

There's another thread current right now that already gives the lyrics to this.

The lyrics to "Clare Island in Mayo" were written by Clare Island native Patrick Flynn who emigrated to the USA in the early 1900s. The song can be found on the CD "Clare Island in Mayo" which is currently available on ebay. Below is a direct link:

Hope this helps.

[D]Will you meet me on Clare [G]Island
Summer [D]stars are in the [A]sky
We'll[D] get the ferry out from[G] Roonagh
And [D]wave all our [A]cares good[D]bye

And we'll go dancing at the ceili
We'll go kissing on the strand
Take our clothes off in the moonlight
Skinny-dipping hand in hand
And we'll start drinking in the twilight
Keep it up until the dawn
In both the bars
Because there's no guards
To take our names and send us home.

Will you meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
We'll get the ferry out from roonagh
And wave all our cares goodbye.

Gettin' weary of the city
Seems so many things have changed
Let's head off for Nora Dalys home
Where she's walked
It never rained
So will you meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the sky
We'll get the ferry out from roonagh
And wave all our cares goodbye

And if there's wild and tall white horses
And the swell rolls in the bay
I won't care if the boat can't sail
Sure we'll get home
Some other day

So will you meet me on Clare Island
Summer stars are in the skys
We'll get the ferry out from roonage
And wave all our cares goodbye

The above are the full lyrics for another song entitled Clare Island mentioned in the thread.
The original poster's remembered lyric snippets are still waiting for the rest of that particular song. Any takers?
