Subject: RE: Alternative Tune Titles From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 31 Oct 09 - 12:01 PM I thought it was originally Rakes of (Ste-) Malo, and was composed in honour of the 18th century equivalent of lager louts. I have seen a traditional English version entitled "Riggs of Marlow" |
Subject: RE: Alternative Tune Titles From: Jack Campin Date: 31 Oct 09 - 11:51 AM Rakes of Marlow may BE the original, it dates to the 18th century. Another surprising one is the Cumberland Reel. It was originally the Cumbernauld Reel. You can imagine why people might want to forget that. |
Subject: RE: Alternative Tune Titles From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 31 Oct 09 - 11:36 AM We used to play "The Cock-up of the North", especially with the key change last time through. |

Subject: Alternative Tune Titles From: bubblyrat Date: 31 Oct 09 - 08:34 AM I can't claim originality for this bit of fun,as it is inspired by a recent performance in concert,at Banbury,by Bob Fox and his mate Billy from "Lindisfarne"' Anyway, they introduced a tune set as being "Spanish Misfortune " and "Trip To Cephalonia",which I thought was a great idea,so here's some more to get you going (they don't HAVE to be Irish !!) :- Greece In The Bog (and, of course, Toss The Fetas !) King Of The Faeroes The Marakesh Jig The Cup Of Tay The Rakes Of Marlow OK --over to you (if this is in the wrong section ,Jo,please move it,as I don't know how !). |
