In the database there are the lyrics and chords for the chorus but not for the verse. This song was recorded by the old time country band the Leake County Revelers, from Leake County Mississippi. They recorded it by the full name of the song: They Go Wild Simply Wild Over Me (Lyr: Joe McCarthy Mus: Fred Fisher).

Yeah, I had seen these chords, but they are incomplete. This is just the chorus. There's a verse as well. I made an MP3 of the LCR version from an old 78. Not sure how to post it.

It would be great if you'd post a transcription. Then maybe we can make some progress.

Hi, Joe-
Apparently, the song was written in 1917 and used in the musical comedy Irene. You'll find a PDF file of the sheet music at the Levy Sheet Music Collection (click) - I don't have time to transcribe it just now, so feel tree to transcribe and post it. Seems to me that Pete Seeger recorded that song (not that I could find the recording), but I don't think he included the verse - listening to the verse, I could see why not, because it's too specific to the play.
If you can make a MIDI of the melody, I can post it.
Send it as an e-mail attachment.

Sheet music viewable at IN Harmony (Indiana University).
Title: They go wild simply wild over me
Composer: Fisher, Fred, 1875-1942
Lyricist: McCarthy, Joseph, 1885-1943
Published: New York: McCarthy & Fisher, Inc., copyright 1917

Several clips on YouTube.

It's a standard with barbershop groups.

I presume this isn't the model for the Wobbly parody

They go wild, simply wild over me
Though I've never done them harm as I could see
I'm as gentle as a lamb but they take me for a ram
They go wild, simply wild over me.

That is the the song that T-Bone slim parodied for the IWW's Little Red songbook.

Thanks for the sheet music post Artful. I think with that, the LCR 78 and the chords for the chorus from Mudcat I can work it out. The song is about ten year newer than I thought it was, which means it was only about ten years old when the Leake Co. Revelers recorded it. A semi-modest song about male attractiveness to women is something I can use in my repertoire of old-time country record rip-offs. (As those of you who remember previous posts know, I love old Country 78s from the '20s.)

The Hoosier Hotshots also did a great version of it back in the '40's.

Thanks GutB for the Heftones link. This song has been recorded a lot over the years. Thanks to all who posted versions recorded including parodies.

Also recorded by Ian Whitcomb (with a different 2nd verse) in the mid 70s, and it's also on a Spike Jones discography, but with no details.

Here's an old recording by the popular ragtime artist Billy Murray:

This next one is a link to the Leake Co. Revelers' record I have. I found it on Honking Duck

http://honkingduck.com/78s/listen.php?s=20151A

It was recorded by two more country groups in the mid '30s: The New Dixie Demons and (as "They Go Wild Over Me") The Tune Wranglers.

(Which also lists LCR and HH-S versions.)
