Subject: Katy Moffatt & Hugh Moffatt @TwickFolk From: evansakes Date: 10 Nov 09 - 07:23 AM That's this Sunday Nov 15th at 8pm TwickFolk at THE CABBAGE PATCH PUB 67 London Road TWICKENHAM Middlesex TW1 3SZ My Space www.MySpace.com/TwickFolk Advance Tickets www.wegottickets.com/TwickFolk Website www.TwickFolk.co.uk KATY MOFFATT & HUGH MOFFATT £10adv/£12 No apologies for ANOTHER swift return visit to TwickFolk for Katy Moffatt. Not that we feel we need one but the excuse this time is that we've been presented with a VERY rare opportunity to present Katy with her brother Hugh who (lo and behold!) is also an acclaimed singer-songwriter. This tour will be the first time Katy and Hugh perform together in the UK. They'll be onstage throughout "trading" songs and stories and accompanying each other. From the earliest days of her career, when she went on the road opening for blues legend Muddy Waters, to her current status as one of the most highly respected originators of country rock, Katy Moffatt has distinguished herself as one of the most literate and eclectic artists to fall under the nebulous heading of singer-songwriter. For some inexplicable reason Katy has never broken through to mainstream success yet she explores the complexities of modern life and relationships with grace and subtlety usually associated with such better known artists as Nanci Griffith and Lucinda Williams. She has earned a substantial cult following among roots-music fans and plenty of critical respect for her blend of country, folk, rock, pop, and blues. She has also co-written dozens of songs with Tom Russell including "Walking On The Moon", "Hank and Audrey" and "Sparrow of Swansea" "Folk, Country, Blues, Rock ... Roots? She erases the boundaries. They call the music "Americana" now. Well close your eyes and listen to The Voice" Tom Russell http://www.myspace.com/katymoffatt Hugh Moffatt is two years older than Katy and first worked as a singer-songwriter in Austin emulating the likes of Kris Kristofferson and Stephen Fromholz. Success as a writer first came when Ronnie Milsap recorded and had a top 5 country hit with "Just in Case" and provided him with the opportunity to record in his own right. In the mid 70's he released two unsuccessful singles before re-focussing on songwriting. He married songwriter Pebe Siebert, with whom he wrote "Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You" a hit for both Joe Sun and later Dolly Parton. Together with Katy he released 1992's "Dance Me Outside" and continues to perform with her whenever their schedules allow. He has continued to record and release albums well into the new millennium and shortly before his death Johnny Cash recorded a version of "Rose of My Heart" (released American V: A Hundred Highways). He has also co-written three operas, one entitled "Corps of Discovery" which follows the journeys of US explorers Lewis and Clark. http://www.hughmoffatt.com/ |
