At 11.30 tonight Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel will present the first programme of a series about Western Swing on BBC Radio 2: sound promising.

Thanks for the heads-up, ctsnapper. I always loved the shifting line-up of AATW - hopefully we'll hear Bob Wills and some other good stuff tonight...

I can't seem to get into western swing, although I did like Merle Haggard's Bob Wills tribute album.

Hi Tunesmith - some western swing can sound very samey at first. The great thing about Bob Wills in particular was the huge range of his band (the Texas Playboys). They could shift from old-fashioned country ballds with violins to hot brass and sax jazz playing and boogie-woogie - sometimes all in the same number! Worth a listen if you get the chance. :-)

Indeed. And Asleep at The Wheel also play a wide range of stuff.
