Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: naughtyforty Date: 12 Nov 09 - 05:47 AM I have been keeping my eye out for this thread - thought it would have to appear soon. I will definitely be there on Saturday and might even make Sunday this year. |

Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: VirginiaTam Date: 12 Nov 09 - 02:57 PM Count me and my daughter and TheSilentOne and his daughter and her partner in, there both days, but the young folks may do some wondering around Rochester High street Saturday afternoon before they join us. CrowSister and her Dad might be there as well. Will there be Saturday evening session as well? It was a bit thin last year. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 12 Nov 09 - 04:44 PM "..but the young folks may do some wondering around Rochester High street Saturday afternoon before they join us." "When she was half a dozen years younger, Louisa had been overheard to begin a conversation with her brother one day, by saying 'Tom, I wonder' -- upon which Mr. Gradgrind, who was the person overhearing, stepped forth into the light and said, 'Louisa, never wonder!' Herein lay the spring of the mechanical art and mystery of educating the reason without stooping to the cultivation of the sentiments and affections. Never wonder. By means of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, settle everything somehow, and never wonder. Bring to me, says M'Choakumchild, yonder baby just able to walk, and I will engage that it shall never wonder." From "Hard Times" by Charles Dickens (former resident of Rochester!) |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 12 Nov 09 - 04:52 PM Melodeonboy is well known for talking bollocks |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 12 Nov 09 - 04:54 PM Charles Dickens' words, not mine! |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: VirginiaTam Date: 12 Nov 09 - 05:29 PM I wrote two critical essays on Hard Times. One of them titled Utilitarian Time bomb. That was a long time ago in a land far away. Of course I meant the young folk would go wandering. Thank FUK it is nearly Friday. Pray and give thanks to the mighty and beneficent FUK, who brings us weekends in his own fukking time. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: GUEST,Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 12 Nov 09 - 09:20 PM I will be there if the dates are ok with work. I think they should be I will check. Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 13 Nov 09 - 02:55 AM Watch your step, Pierre, otherwise I'll shush you at the GI! |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: naughtyforty Date: 13 Nov 09 - 04:50 AM It will probably be only me Pierre so I will more than likely take you up on that offer - thanks |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 14 Nov 09 - 04:48 PM Please define 'shush you at the GI' |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 14 Nov 09 - 08:36 PM "Please define 'shush you at the GI'" At the GI I shall mingle with the crowd, remaining incognito, keeping a safe distance from Pierre, yet being close enough to both watch any movement of his lips and hear any sound that emanates from his mouth. I shall then lie in wait until, during a song, Pierre makes an utterance. At this point I shall bound forward and say "Shhhhh" in a very condescending manner and thereby admonish him. Well, you did ask! |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Leadfingers Date: 14 Nov 09 - 09:11 PM It being 'That Time Of Year' is it Christmas themed ?? Or just the usual bloody good sing and play ? |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: GUEST,Dave Kenningham Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:13 AM Good to see you all on the 19th. Can I play that ......Leaving on a Jet Plane again? |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:28 AM Leadfingers: Seasonal songs will be especially welcome (Ruff 'n' Reddy'll be doing several), but not obligatory! I look forward to seeing you there. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: VirginiaTam Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:52 AM Yes Terry, Do come along! Has anyone told Richard Bridge? I understand he is giving Mudcat a break for a bit, so may not remember this event. Certainly hope Don_WYSIWYG_T and Clive can make it. Someone contact Paul from Sheppey and who was that Jo (woman trad singer) from Sheppey last year? She was very good. Dilligafxx and KevtheClogs needed also and Essex Girl. I am going to ask again about Saturday evening. Last year there were not many in attendance in the evening. How many plan to return after dinner for more singing and playing? Also, last year Wolf's Head Vixen was meant to dance, but their numbers were decimated by seasonal flu. Will they be there this year? There was one young 'un from WHV who had just learned to play guitar and she was scarily good. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 15 Nov 09 - 04:28 PM I'll get back to you Tam Dave Kanningham, what where you thinking of leaving on a jet plane? |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:31 PM Mr Bridge taking a break from Mudcat ? I was wondering where he was. It had passed my mind that he may have been struck down by some affliction? Clearly not which is good. I think some one should write a suushing song so everyone can suuuush untill there hearts are content and get the suuuuuush out there system before the real music starts looking forward to this event very much and to seeing folk I have not seen in ages, Kind regards Pierre, Can I put a banner up? "Folk against suuuuuuuushing" |

Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Don(Wyziwyg)T Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:45 PM I shall be splitting my attention this year. Saturday at the GI, of course, for as long as possible (subject to getting my transport working), then Sunday EVENING at Penny's session at the Walnut Tree, Tonbridge Road, Maidstone (because I promised). If transport (and my chauffeur wife) permits, I might make Sunday Arvo at the GI, but I can't promise. As to bringing Clive, that too depends on my currently U/S Ford Scorpio, unless of course some kind person would be prepared to offer........? Don T. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Dead Horse Date: 16 Nov 09 - 06:27 AM Can I put a banner up? "Folk against suuuuuuuushing" So long as it is tastefully done, doesnt clash with anything, and is not in anyones line of sight. Rather like Melodeonboys shirts, really. |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 16 Nov 09 - 05:29 PM We didn't promise tasteful, just beer |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Girl Friday Date: 17 Nov 09 - 04:15 PM I'll email Paul from Sheppy. Haven't seen him lately. |

Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: VirginiaTam Date: 18 Nov 09 - 12:59 PM Yep I knew Fair Maid was attending and assumed Fisheye would be along as well. Wendy, I am trying to find out the same re after dinner hours. Growler said he'd get back to me on that. Last year, there was no organizer on Sat evening, but there we a few people singing away until 10 or so. It was still good. Cozy is what it was. There is a very nice B&B within staggering distance, the Greystones, where we will be staying Saturday night. Just in case you want to attend the Sunday session as well, but not drive back Saturday night. |

Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 19 Nov 09 - 10:11 PM Re Medievel Music Who remembers that BBC program from back in the 70s cheep cardboard animation where the Court Jester playing the Lute does the opening titles to a great little Melody. Similar in style to Captain Pugwash the programe was entitled "SIR PRANCALOT" |

Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 21 Nov 09 - 04:26 PM The more young people. the better. let's keep this tradition alive |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: VirginiaTam Date: 22 Nov 09 - 08:13 AM well I dunno about keepin it alive. TSO's daughter not a musician and mine is more a karaoke girl now, though she used to do sort of trad stuff when she was in the medieval society for creative anachronists. |
