Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 22 Dec 09 - 04:32 PM Never mind, Kevin, just trying to make you feel guilty. Love you lots |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 22 Dec 09 - 08:00 AM Hmmm... I didn't realise that such an innocent posting would tread on sensibilities! Just to clarify, no slight was intended to Phil. I saw Drohne for the first time earlier this year, and they were billed as "Drohne"! Having lived most of my adult life abroad, I'm afraid I don't have the full background of "who played with who" in Britain over the last few decades, so I don't have his musical background or possible god-like qualities in my memory banks! Sorry! The important thing is to thank him for doing such a great set at the GI, and to say what a really talented and creative musician I think he is! (I'll bring the incense next time!) :) |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: growler Date: 21 Dec 09 - 04:22 PM It's Phil Martin on the hurdy-gurdy ,he's a god, one of the two best players in England and you can't remember his name!!!! shame on you Kevin, However, I'll agree with you that Richard Bridge, made thar basic system sound professional |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: melodeonboy Date: 21 Dec 09 - 07:19 AM I'm sorry you weren't there yesterday, Pete - I was looking forward to a bit of shushing! Thanks to all who came yesterday; it was a great afternoon. It was especially nice to see Chris from the Shiny Bums (all the way from Australia), and "Tam Junior" (don't she sound like her mum?! - that's a compliment, by the way!). Thanks also to The Owl Service and the hurdy-gurdy player from Drohne (whose name escapes me) for the evening performance, not forgetting Richard Bridge, who got a really nice sound for them with fairly basic equipment. Thanks, as always, to Karen and Dal for their support, the great venue and the great range of beer they put on (which didn't quite freeze, although I think Dal nearly did, standing outside all day serving it!). And a happy new bear (as Pete puts it!) to all our readers (Grrrrr)! |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Pierre Le Chapeau Date: 20 Dec 09 - 12:50 PM What a excellent day I throughly enjoyed meself and it was good to see people I have not seen in a while. There was some great songs and talent shown on Saturday, a very well done to all singers players and Tap dancers. Thanks to Fisheye and Babs for the lift there and back. Great to meet Tams daughter from acoss the pond they both have equal voice when it comes to singing. Lead fingers Christmas song the funny version was very good which inspired me to sing a funny song.(1st time. It was good to see John Barden who arrived after working to join in the fun and to lead a excellent "RIDE ON" which rounded of a perfect day of music and laughter. I was somewhat surprised to see Richard Bridge tuning up his Mandolin in the delightful ceramic acoustics of the pubs toilet. "Still better then slipping Arse over Head outside I suppose" Indeed there were Two versions played of Over the hills and far away. The King George version & The Queen Anne version. I have been told there are a lot of variations of this song and quite a few verses that are not used by myself or Richard so I on the ineternet tonight to see if I can find them. In the mean time I hope the Sunday singeround was just has good has the Saturday and if I have not been working I would have joined you today has well. Looking forward now to next year and all the events I plan to go too in 2010. Happy Christmas everyone and a happy newe bear |
Subject: RE: Good Intent UK Wassail From: Girl Friday Date: 20 Dec 09 - 12:37 PM Friday night went very well. About 15 of us. The guests arrived safely plus parents.
