Hi Folks
Once again, The Good Intent Rochester, will be hosting the usual Wassail, on Saturday 19th, and Sunday 20th December. As usual there will be ten beers on, in adition to the normal ales served from the keg. Saturday will be hosted by John Barden and Sunday by 'Ruff and Reddy'. Both start from 1.00pm. Look forward to seeing you.

Count me and my daughter and TheSilentOne and his daughter and her partner in, there both days, but the young folks may do some wondering around Rochester High street Saturday afternoon before they join us.

CrowSister and her Dad might be there as well.

Will there be Saturday evening session as well? It was a bit thin last year.

"..but the young folks may do some wondering around Rochester High street Saturday afternoon before they join us."

"When she was half a dozen years younger, Louisa had been overheard to begin a conversation with her brother one day, by saying 'Tom, I wonder' -- upon which Mr. Gradgrind, who was the person overhearing, stepped forth into the light and said, 'Louisa, never wonder!'

Herein lay the spring of the mechanical art and mystery of educating the reason without stooping to the cultivation of the sentiments and affections. Never wonder. By means of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, settle everything somehow, and never wonder. Bring to me, says M'Choakumchild, yonder baby just able to walk, and I will engage that it shall never wonder."

From "Hard Times" by Charles Dickens (former resident of Rochester!)

I wrote two critical essays on Hard Times. One of them titled Utilitarian Time bomb. That was a long time ago in a land far away.

Of course I meant the young folk would go wandering.

Thank FUK it is nearly Friday. Pray and give thanks to the mighty and beneficent FUK, who brings us weekends in his own fukking time.

"Please define 'shush you at the GI'"

At the GI I shall mingle with the crowd, remaining incognito, keeping a safe distance from Pierre, yet being close enough to both watch any movement of his lips and hear any sound that emanates from his mouth.

I shall then lie in wait until, during a song, Pierre makes an utterance. At this point I shall bound forward and say "Shhhhh" in a very condescending manner and thereby admonish him.

Well, you did ask!

Yes Terry, Do come along! Has anyone told Richard Bridge? I understand he is giving Mudcat a break for a bit, so may not remember this event.

Certainly hope Don_WYSIWYG_T and Clive can make it. Someone contact Paul from Sheppey and who was that Jo (woman trad singer) from Sheppey last year? She was very good. Dilligafxx and KevtheClogs needed also and Essex Girl.

I am going to ask again about Saturday evening. Last year there were not many in attendance in the evening. How many plan to return after dinner for more singing and playing?

Also, last year Wolf's Head Vixen was meant to dance, but their numbers were decimated by seasonal flu. Will they be there this year? There was one young 'un from WHV who had just learned to play guitar and she was scarily good.

Mr Bridge taking a break from Mudcat ?
I was wondering where he was.
It had passed my mind that he may have been struck down by some affliction?
Clearly not which is good.
I think some one should write a suushing song so everyone can suuuush untill there hearts are content and get the suuuuuush out there system before the real music starts looking forward to this event very much and to seeing folk I have not seen in ages,
Kind regards Pierre,

I shall be splitting my attention this year.

Saturday at the GI, of course, for as long as possible (subject to getting my transport working), then Sunday EVENING at Penny's session at the Walnut Tree, Tonbridge Road, Maidstone (because I promised).

If transport (and my chauffeur wife) permits, I might make Sunday Arvo at the GI, but I can't promise.

As to bringing Clive, that too depends on my currently U/S Ford Scorpio, unless of course some kind person would be prepared to offer........?

Yep I knew Fair Maid was attending and assumed Fisheye would be along as well.

Wendy, I am trying to find out the same re after dinner hours. Growler said he'd get back to me on that.

Last year, there was no organizer on Sat evening, but there we a few people singing away until 10 or so. It was still good. Cozy is what it was.

There is a very nice B&B within staggering distance, the Greystones, where we will be staying Saturday night. Just in case you want to attend the Sunday session as well, but not drive back Saturday night.

The Group finishing off Sunday Night is ' Owl Service 'at 6.30 pm in the saloon bar, playing medievel music. I normally go home about then, but I'm going to stop for this one and may become slightly drunk, cause I can't resist a hurdy-gurdy

Wendy - would be uberkool if you were staying at same B&B.

Hosts are Bill and Bev and they are really lovely. If you decide to contact them, mention I referred you.

Re Medievel Music
Who remembers that BBC program from back in the 70s cheep cardboard animation where the Court Jester playing the Lute does the opening titles to a great little Melody. Similar in style to Captain Pugwash the programe was entitled
                         "SIR PRANCALOT"

It will be great to be in the GI again this Saturday I have not seen some Folk since the Knockholt fiasco back in September, and others since Otford back in October.

When my Granddad was dying two years ago my Nan covered his back in Lard?
3 hours later he slipped away quietly?

I saw a Harry Krisner the other day.
He said to me "Do you believe in Reincarnation?
I said " Not you again?

Did you hear about the leapers playing cards?
One threw his hand in.
The other laughed his head off. Hah Hah See you Saturday.

It must have ben the right kind of snow for once. I have my fingers crossed for tonight. Martin and Chloe intend to attempt the journey down. They planned to attend the wassail tomorrow. We Leopards are playing it by ear.I'm even more scared of falling since the Broadstairs incident.

What about No Worries? Will they be there? I mean John Barden hasn't even come onto this thread and he is leading a session.

no Kev the Clogs or Dilligafxx either...

Where's all my Kent friends?

Hope Wolf's Head Vixen show up and dance. Would be great for Hilary to see some Morris Dancing, but also want to know how that girl who was just learning guitar last year has got on. She was amazing for only few weeks learning.

Norman is transporting Jan Barden in to hold the fort for Santa Bard, and I'm heading that way on the pubic (well they do have a lot of cock-ups) transport system.

See you all there, I hope.

Just remember we have our civic duty to perform, by ensuring all that beer doesn't go to waste.

Friday night went very well. About 15 of us. The guests arrived safely plus parents. There was a threat of early bar closure if it snowed again, but it held off. James's birthday went ofrf ok eventually. One older brother, resident in Chatham, couldn't drive up, so took the train. Arrived well late. No snow left in Dartford , but bitterly cold there,as here. Tried to ring the pub this afternoon, but nobody answering. Leopards in hibernation. Merry Christmas everybody.

What a excellent day I throughly enjoyed meself and it was good to see people I have not seen in a while. There was some great songs and talent shown on Saturday, a very well done to all singers players and Tap dancers.
Thanks to Fisheye and Babs for the lift there and back.
Great to meet Tams daughter from acoss the pond they both have equal voice when it comes to singing.
Lead fingers Christmas song the funny version was very good which inspired me to sing a funny song.(1st time.
It was good to see John Barden who arrived after working to join in the fun and to lead a excellent "RIDE ON" which rounded of a perfect day of music and laughter.
I was somewhat surprised to see Richard Bridge tuning up his Mandolin in the delightful ceramic acoustics of the pubs toilet.
"Still better then slipping Arse over Head outside I suppose"

Indeed there were Two versions played of
Over the hills and far away.
                      The King George version
                   & The Queen Anne version.
I have been told there are a lot of variations of this song and quite a few verses that are not used by myself or Richard so I on the ineternet tonight to see if I can find them.

In the mean time I hope the Sunday singeround was just has good has the Saturday and if I have not been working I would have joined you today has well. Looking forward now to next year and all the events I plan to go too in 2010.
Happy Christmas everyone and a happy newe bear

I'm sorry you weren't there yesterday, Pete - I was looking forward to a bit of shushing!

Thanks to all who came yesterday; it was a great afternoon. It was especially nice to see Chris from the Shiny Bums (all the way from Australia), and "Tam Junior" (don't she sound like her mum?! - that's a compliment, by the way!). Thanks also to The Owl Service and the hurdy-gurdy player from Drohne (whose name escapes me) for the evening performance, not forgetting Richard Bridge, who got a really nice sound for them with fairly basic equipment.

Thanks, as always, to Karen and Dal for their support, the great venue and the great range of beer they put on (which didn't quite freeze, although I think Dal nearly did, standing outside all day serving it!).

And a happy new bear (as Pete puts it!) to all our readers (Grrrrr)!

It's Phil Martin on the hurdy-gurdy ,he's a god, one of the two best players in England and you can't remember his name!!!! shame on you Kevin, However, I'll agree with you that Richard Bridge, made thar basic system sound professional

Hmmm... I didn't realise that such an innocent posting would tread on sensibilities!

Just to clarify, no slight was intended to Phil. I saw Drohne for the first time earlier this year, and they were billed as "Drohne"!

Having lived most of my adult life abroad, I'm afraid I don't have the full background of "who played with who" in Britain over the last few decades, so I don't have his musical background or possible god-like qualities in my memory banks! Sorry!

The important thing is to thank him for doing such a great set at the GI, and to say what a really talented and creative musician I think he is!

(I'll bring the incense next time!) :)
