Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: GUEST,Ed Date: 14 Nov 09 - 06:42 AM It's at SK13 8AT for those people who make use of postcodes. The website is here. I'm not sure if being "the only Labour Club in the High Peak constituency" is a good or a bad thing... Ed |
Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: Spleen Cringe Date: 14 Nov 09 - 06:44 AM Hi Jeddy, Could you put the address of the venue up, please? And do you know if you need to get tickets in advance or do you reckon people will be able to get in on the door? I fancy going to this gig - and Glossop's only a 20 minute drive away... cheers, Spl Cr |

Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Nov 09 - 07:21 AM Complete aside from roy's gig - which is sure to be wonderful anyway - on the "the only Labour Club in the High Peak constituency" comment. Just up the road from Glossop is Stalybridge (of the folk club in the railway station buffet fame). They have the only "Conservative Working Men's Club" I have ever seen. Maybe the area is rich in one offs! DeG |
Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: Brian Peters Date: 15 Nov 09 - 08:28 AM When I used to hang out in Glossop Labour club I seem to recall that many of my fellow members used to be members of the Tory Club as well, because it had snooker tables. So much for political principle. The Labour club was refurbished last year and, even before that, it was a nice venue to play. Roy's appearance is a bit of a coup for the club and I'm sure it will be a great night - too bad I've got a gig elsewhere. |

Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: Cath Date: 15 Nov 09 - 05:48 PM When there was a Tory Club in Holmfirth (it's now the Old Bridge Hotel and has been for many years) it was the place to go on to so that you could carry on drinking when the pubs had closed for the afternoon. Needless to say I never crossed its threshold. |
Subject: RE: roy bailey gig- glossop uk From: Brian Peters Date: 16 Nov 09 - 10:08 AM Jeddy or anyone else - do you know who is putting on folk at the Labour Club? A few different people have organised stuff there in the past (I played benefits there several times for the Chernobyl Children's Appeal) but I've not heard who's doing it now. Just wondering because I've had a message from Chris Foster asking whether there were any gigs in the area, and I think he'd be good for the Labour Club. Seems to be quite a bit happening in Glossop right now. There's the Globe, of course, and a new venue at the Oakwood, where I have a gig in january. |
