Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: greg stephens Date: 19 Nov 09 - 12:31 PM There is a site called Mostly Acoustic Cumbria, I think, that has a lot of info. Sorry I'm in a dash and can't look up a link. Don't know of anything specific myself right now. |

Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: SylviaN Date: 20 Nov 09 - 03:43 AM I know it's cheating a bit, but I just want to send my regards to any Mudcatters that are affected by the floods in Cockermouth. Lots of (((hugs))). Sylvia |
Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: Jack Campin Date: 20 Nov 09 - 03:44 AM Is anything in Cumbria still going ahead on Saturday, apart from singalongs in rescue centres? Mudcatter Ally is from Cockermouth, I think - hope to hear how's she's getting on. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8366360.stm |

Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: Richard Hardaker Date: 20 Nov 09 - 05:39 PM We had our monthly session at Armathwaite last Wednesday and could hear the roaring of the River Eden in the dark. I happened to sing the ballad "Jock o' the Side" where the escaping rescue party have to ford the swollen north Tyne, and they ask an old man at Chollerford. "Will the water ride?" And up and spoke the good auld man "Here I've lived thirty years and three But ne'r yet saw the Tyne sae big, And running at ance sae like the sea" It was uncanny to hear his words echoed today by a resident of Eamont Bridge just south of Penrith, whose house was flooded and had never seen the river rise so much in the 36 years he'd been living there. |

Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: GUEST,guest No Fixed Abode Date: 21 Nov 09 - 06:28 AM We have been up in Cumbria since Wednesday and it has been pretty bad here. We are staying with some friends in Seascale and because of the weather we had to cancel our gig on Thursday but last night we did our gig at the Screes Inn in Nether Wasdale as part of their folk weekend and there is a session there today (Saturday) from 4.0pm and a band from 9.0pm tonight if this helps you Tony |
Subject: RE: Cumbrian Folk Music From: Marje Date: 22 Nov 09 - 01:37 PM Ally actually lives over Workington way, I think, although she has friends and connections in Cockermouth. It's bad over there too, being on the same river as Cockermouth, but she's fine, she's on high ground and not directly affected. I have heard from her via another forum. Hope you who are in that part of the world manage to keep the music going - anything that lifts spirits is bound to be welcome! Marje |
