Subject: RE: animated transcriptions of performances From: Jack Campin Date: 25 Nov 09 - 07:40 AM Most of the ornamentation seemed to be there, except for variations in attack. The piece was in the saba makam, which is a very strange scale with lots of notes microtonally different from Western music - in its commonest form it even has a flattened octave, and the upper octave doesn't reproduce the lower one. In Turkish notation, you state the makam in words at the top of the score and use a microtonal key signature as well. Saba is the makam that works least well for (it probably goes back at least 2000 years and its pitch set doesn't exactly fit the standard modern Turkish theoretical model), but a literal reproduction of that score would still be pretty close. |
Subject: RE: animated transcriptions of performances From: Will Fly Date: 25 Nov 09 - 07:08 AM I can get this on my computer with Harmony Assistant, but I've not yet discovered a way of capturing it to video. Interesting and fascinating tune on the YouTube video, by the way. The notation didn't seem to attempt to capture the very fluid "grace" notes and almost quarter tone notes - is this because they're taken for granted in Turkish music as part of the interpretation of the piece? |

Subject: animated transcriptions of performances From: Jack Campin Date: 24 Nov 09 - 08:27 PM How do they do this? animated score of a Turkish flute solo Working from a real performance is quite a bit trickier than using some animation tool on a MIDI. |
