Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Nov 10 - 04:32 AM Both Lady Ga Ga and Madonna seem to me to reduce music from art form to entertainment. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 04 Nov 10 - 04:14 AM Vocally, theatrically Lady Ga Ga is better than Madonna. Madonna was the first of her kind but I preferred Cindy Lauper at the time for her zaniness and her voice had a bit of vulnerability. Lady Ga Ga to her credit works hard at what she does and I hate to admit it I do enjoy watching the finished product, allegedly she does not have a personal life at all so I suppose that is the price she pays. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: GUEST Date: 03 Nov 10 - 07:59 PM I love lady gaga also!!! |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Spleen Cringe Date: 28 Nov 09 - 04:29 AM I don't particularly enjoy Lady GaGa's stuff. I MUCH prefer your enthusiasm, Olddude! That's one of the best things about music (of any kind) - people getting excited about it. The dude abides. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:51 PM Skivee you are a music scholar |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:50 PM Melodeonboy if indeed you do have better things then why discuss? And not just do your better discussions that interest you. After nearly 5 years on mudcat I think I figured that out awhile ago. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Skivee Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:46 PM Olddude, I'm voting with you Re: lady Gaga. She's pretty impressive |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:31 PM LOL .. Yes Dick you got it ... You are feeling the vibes my friend ... we can come up with a whole bunch of stuff like that, mix cowboy and sea songs together and have a "bury me not on the Lone Dark Sea" or something like that. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: melodeonboy Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:28 PM I can't help but agree with Lox. Madonna's a very average singer, a third rate dancer, her lyrics fluctuate between mindless pop and pretentiousness ( a bit like the Spice Girls' "Girl Power" bollocks, but much cleverer) and her backing music is predictable and dull. She is, however, a very good businesswoman. Credit where it's due! Why do people like this keep cropping up on this forum? I've got better things to discuss! |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: dick greenhaus Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:26 PM I think we could get someone as talented as Bruce or Ron Bankley to write a Clancey brothers, Johnny Cash, Van Ronk combo .." now there's what we really need----a folk processor |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:16 PM Teddy? no Lox that is a blow up life size doll of Patsy Cline LOL where the heck is Spaw I thought I would take a lot more grief than this. I opened the door and noone wants to play ...LOL the poster or Lady GaGa would be hard to see however, no one ever can see her face only half of it ... maybe it is like the Phantom of the Opera or something going on |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:09 PM No redeeming qualities in Madonna Lox ... I can't believe what I am hearing ... I am just dashed !! |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:06 PM YUP, going to put her poster up right next to my Van Ronk and Johnny Cash. But But, not next to "Patsy Cline" she is still my queen "crazy, crazy for ... da dum da dum" |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: GUEST,Lox Date: 27 Nov 09 - 08:02 PM I am touched by Old Dude's crush on Lady Ga Ga though.. I se him in his room at noght, the poster on the wall, clutching his favourite teddy close as he gazes up in wide eyed awe at his true love ... and his parents just don't understand!!!!! |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:44 PM Ahh well Lox, for my sins I do like the old gristle bird. More for the gay dance stuff though, which a prostitute mate of mine got me into. I'd be disinclined to argue with him though, as he'd probably give me (or you) a black-eye for doing so! Such is devotion ;-) |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:33 PM I think we could get someone as talented as Bruce or Ron Bankley to write a Clancey brothers, Johnny Cash, Van Ronk combo ... she maybe on to something here with mixing styles. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: GUEST,Lox Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:31 PM "Madonna I have more respect for, she seems to strike out now and again into new territory." i wuld really love to go on at great length about just how much I disagree and how much I oppose te above statement. However, I would need to be alive for hundreds of years just to get beyond the opening list of reasons. I find no redeeming qualities in Madonna's music, persona or politics. Yuk!! |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:21 PM LOL, Alice, I am still a clancey brothers guy LOL no worries here LOL |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:19 PM blending of styles on poker face , disco for sure, techno yup, some crooker, yup .. some rap yup .. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Alice Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:19 PM um, those were the ones I tried to listen to on youtube Well, I'm glad you found something that floats your boat, Dan!!! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:17 PM and of course poker face poker face |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 07:09 PM Now I get it, my kid told me on the one music award she took speechless, pokerface and bad romance and did them as one. If I find it I will post it ... it was cool. The song Speechless is really pretty I think speechless |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:43 PM cool, not the one but still cool, all different styles bad romance |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Alice Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:16 PM Give us a title and I'll check it out on youtube. I have not heard anything from her like what you describe, nothing I'd want to listen to all the way through a song. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:11 PM I will see if I can find it, saw her do it on TV at a piano, then busted loose, thought it was really unique. Never be my taste in music but was cool I thought since it was unique and original dan |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Rasener Date: 27 Nov 09 - 06:11 PM Dan, I am with you on this. I get to hear all the latest stuff through my daughters and I have been hearing excellent music for many years. I always said, that I wouldn't do what my old man did on me and put down all the modern stuff that my brothers and I liked, and I haven't. I think Lady Ga Ga is great. The younger people are really putting good music out there. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 27 Nov 09 - 05:37 PM Eh, well good on you Dan for being open to more modern music (what my Nan called that 'thumping noise')! Though for my own taste the GaGa lass isn't particularly original - she follows close in the footsteps of the likes of Cher & Kylie to my mind. Madonna I have more respect for, she seems to strike out now and again into new territory. Plus she works her arse off to put on a show. D'you recall the name of the song you thought was so good? Can't say as I follow GaGa's work fully enough to make any definite judgement.. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 04:55 PM serious no kidding, in one song I heard her go from crooner 50's to blues to techno, to rap and about everything in between all original. I thought it was really cool and very much unique in the cookie cutter world of modern music... yup I am gaga for GaGa :-) Dan |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: WalkaboutsVerse Date: 27 Nov 09 - 04:42 PM This is BIG news, indeed - Olddude goes Ga Ga! ;-)> |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 27 Nov 09 - 04:38 PM I quite like the theatrical stage dress - it's colourful and dramatic & I appreciate 'theatricality' & spectacle in performers, as I think they're there to entertain and put on a *show* for the punters (razamatazz and all that jazz), but musically it's not exactly fresh IMO. |
Subject: RE: Lady Ga Ga , Love it! From: Alice Date: 27 Nov 09 - 04:35 PM Are you serious or just kidding? Sounds like disco to me. |
Subject: Lady GaGa , Love it! From: olddude Date: 27 Nov 09 - 04:18 PM That young lady takes 5 different styles of music, puts them in a blender tosses it out in a sound I have never heard before. I think it is refreshing to hear a style of music that to me never existed before. Couple it with an amazing voice and it is something special. Now it is my style of music ... heck no .. but like looking at a brand new style of modern art painting, I can certainly appreciate it and enjoy the art form. Great job ... wow |
