I Hope to make it.
I was in Mystic on Friday, stopped off for lunch at the pub on the way back from Thanksgiving in New York - the pub is closing soon and under new management when it re-opens in the new year, so changes are afoot.

Perhaps some clarification is in order, given that I see no mention of "Barry Finn" in connection with this fundraising event on the linked Mystic SeaPort website. Is this official, semi-official, or just in the mind of the well-intentioned guest who initiated this thread?

I would normally ask this question privately as a PM but evidently "Guest, Guest" is not a member.

Ok, is this going to be the only Barry Finn memorial do, if so then it is likely that 2BS&S will pay a flying visit if a) people that owe me money pay up before christmas and b) Ron isn't working. We had planned to attend a memorial that had been mooted for the spring. We were flirting with the idea of going to Mystic again this year but we have decided to lend our support to the Ipswich folk weekend on the same dates. Anyone know anything?

It is likely that Barry's wife, Justine, and his daughter, Natalie, will be at the Chantey Blast. It has been asked that they bring the story board of his incredibly touching life along with them if possible.
Hands down, there was no other person I can think of on this planet who could always bring a smile to your face just on the mention of his name.
Let's sing it up for him in grand style on Jan. 9th.
Fair winds,
Liam's Sister-in-law

Liam's Sister-in-law-

That is excellent news to hear (that it is official), and I believe Norris Dale will be coming with me as well to this special event. And that is 1 to 5 pm on Saturday, so we really don't have to worry about staying over unless some decide to sing all night as well!

Is there anything special being done at the South Street end?

I do believe that Tom Hall has plans to organize a Memorial concert for Barry the weekend after the Mystic Sea Music Festival (to better accommodate some friends from overseas and from other parts of the country), that would be the 3rd weekend of June which coincides with the regular 3:30 to 7:30 pm shanty session at the Press Room; the concert may be latter that evening but Tom should be contacted for more details or if you have suggestions.

I'm now planning to attend the Mystic Barry Finn Memorial Chantey Blast and then continue on to NYC, spend some quality time with my brother's family in Brooklyn and then attend the regular Chanteysing at the Seamen's Church on Saturday, January 16, 8 pm.

Anyone else planning to attend the Mystic gathering?

It will take one heck of blizzard to keep Mike & I away....

here's hoping the weather is kind.

I'd still like to do something in the Greenman Meeting House on Sunday morning.... even if it's just to show up & sing. I might even be "cried out" by then.

Yes, Liam's sister-in-law, we will be there to support the festival with enthusiasm, love, and money. Happy holidays to all, let us remember all of our festival family both here and in the great beyond with peace and joy. Love, the Twins

Sunday I take off for a week in NYC (assuming the weather is fair) and will be joining the South Street monthly chanty circle at the Seamen's Church on Saturday, January 16. Why don't we all go to NYC afterwards?

Oh, how I wish this were happening in the spring or summer, when I might be able to drive up there. My hope is that there may be a memorial session at this year's Getaway for those of us not in New England.

I still look for Barry to post. Hard to accept that dear man has moved on to other realms.

Someone give Justine and any of his kids who attend a hug for me.

Now I need to finish packing up the van, my backpack, and seabag. I take off very earl-lye in the morning.

Anyone hanging around for dinner in Mystic after the Blast?

Sunday, I continue south to New York City. If anyone wants to host a music party there next wednesday, I'd be interested. Otherwise I'll see you at the regular chantey session at the Seamen's Church Institute, Saturday, 8 pm, in the South Street Seaport area.

Just in case someone needs the words -
Tim Radford

Shanty for Barry Finn

Well the sails are raised and the anchor stowed
No more shall we tarry
And it's roll and go on the West Sea Road
Sing it again for Mr Finn and haul away for Barry!

May our loved ones back in port be blessed
No more shall we tarry
And our course be set for the West Nor'west
Sing it again for Mr Finn and haul away for Barry!

Well our ship is old but she's sound and dry
No more shall we tarry
So its raise the flag and watch her fly
Sing it again for Mr Finn and haul away for Barry!

We're bound for harbor on the Eastern Shore
No more shall we tarry
A thousand miles away or more
Sing it again for Mr Finn and haul away for Barry!

If never we return again
No more shall we tarry
We'll leave a song on the Western Wind
Sing it again for Mr Finn and haul away for Barry!

Sing loud enough & maybe we will hear you here in western MA.
