If anyone would like to tell us how amazing these two outstanding fiddle players are - please feel free! This is the first concert I have put on since my departure from MFAB and I'd appreciate any support. These musicians need work and opportunities to play to people who appreciate their music!

Look forward to seeing you!

Swarb came to the Royal Oak at Lewes some weeks ago and was absolutely superb. I was queuing on the stairs to get in when this owd lad came puffing up the stairs and said, "'Scuse me lads, you can't start without me!" Which was true.

A great evening from one of the masters - fiddling like a demon. If I was any closer, I'd see him again.

Thank you so much for supporting this thread - like any promoter doing it 'stand alone' and for the first time I am really worried about selling tickets! I appreciate any words from mudcatters to say how brill he is and I know how lovely Gina's new CD is! The nice thing is that he and Gina asked me to put on this concert so I really don't want to let them down!

Hi - I know just how you feel with the promotion business. I put on a one-off concert by guitarist Duck Baker in April this year - the first time I'd ever done such a thing - and I was really worried that I wouldn't cover costs (and have to pay for it all out of my own pocket). In the end, it sold out.

One tip - it's often the case at such events that tickets actually sell on the night so, even though sales might seem slow, they go at the last minute. I'm sure you'll do well - just wish I could be there myself.

Lizzie,

I'll put something on the Salt Town Site plugging this.

As they say at Tesco, every little helps...

Thank you so much! I am going to do the rounds of the folk clubs that I keep promising to go and see the rest of the year!! Watch out folk clubs!

I am offering a little promotion; FOLK CLUB ORGANISERS GO FREE

Any folk club organiser who gets about 10 people to buy tickets gets a complimentary ticket! Should I start a new thread? Got to go and teach today - the day job, I'll put that on tonight!

It really bugs me to open a thread titled "Review:..." only to find NO review because the concert hasn't happened yet.

These threads would be better titled "Announcement" or "Upcoming" or some such.

Or 'blatant plug'?

But be careful how you spell 'blatant'.

Hmm well if you see the post entitled review you will think you have missed the concert and not bother to read it.
And then you really would miss it !

So I'm not convinced that reverse psychology marketing works unless you post it as reverse psychology marketing review and invite some curiosity.

Why do some of you mudcatters always think the worst? I have seen a whole lot of negative stuff on here as well as all the really great stuff!

I used review because 1. I thought people who have seen Dave Swarbrick would be able to tell others hopefully how good it was - mmm... seems to have worked!!

and

2, because I couldn't find an appropriate heading and am not all that familiar with using mudcat!

Helpful comments I appreciate and perhaps I should start a new thread so as not to upset anyone else!

On the other hand a little negative publicity can be as good as the positive and has kept my thread on the front page! Thank you!!

All I want is to raise awareness of a super concert coming soon and I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to make it happen!

Hope you can join me!

Liz

But surely as the headings are optional, you can incorporate a heading into the thread title by starting it with 'Upcoming Concert:'
or 'Announcement:' or whatever?
As I tried to do with 'blatant plug', with somewhat indifferent results...

Hi Lizzie!

Helpful comment(s):

It's unecessary to start a new thread for the same announcements [you've already done another 2 in addition to this one]

If you look on the main page, you'll see 'What's on, who's performing where' permathread, where it's usual to post forthcoming events

To be fair, I don't think anyone was finding fault with your posting, but with Mudcat's limited options for thread titles.

They are really nice people! Dayve Dean from James and the Giant (a band who I booked and played at MFAB this year) kept in touch with me and came to Big Lock last Sunday and somehow or other ended up talking about radio and he's a DJ on there! They are on a 28 day licence at the moment to see what response they get. I think it is pretty good, but I asked about having to 'pay to play' and he said it is to go towards the licence!!
