Always thought Edith Piaf sounded like a sheep. I may be a Kiwi nowadays, but, no....

Wish I sounded like Nat King Cole, without the problems that caused him to sound like that.

Now this is going to seem very strange.

I like all types of music from Folk, Blues, R&B, Rock, Punk, Trad jazz, Country, all the stuff that my 13 year old daughter likes, etc etc.

But there are two songs that have stuck in my mind all through my life and bring goose pimples to me whenever I hear them. What are they.
Not sure if they are sexy but certainly stunning.

I went to a Loved Ones reunion at the Basement a few years ago. There he was on stage in all his glory, still with a magnificent voice, also sporting a magnificent .. beer gut, which he cointained in a stretch gold lame waistcoat! (sob)

Geeze freda, now you really are digging deep into the memory banks with Gerry Humphreys! I was a big fan of The Loved Ones back in the days.... I bought "The Loved One" and "Everlovin' Man" and I can still remember exactly what they sounded like - I might even still have the singles somewhere. I agree with you about his voice - amazing!

Singing it has to be Shirley Collins, speaking it's currently Mariella Frostrup, but I remember back in the 80's there was a Scottish woman who used to read the Shipping Forecast of a night, the way she pronounced the word "poor" sent me to sleep with a smile on my face every time, I used to pray for fog.

MAG-- A few years ago a group callled the "Hot Club of San Francisco" released a CD. It is Django/Grapelli inspired swing. There are a few guest vocalists (my vote, Maria Muldaur included) and one of them is Barbara Dane, sounding good as ever. Very Bluesy. I hadn't heard of her doing anything for years, but I believe she resides somewhere in Northern CA. Anybody know anything more?

As I've said before, I'd seriously consider walking over hot coals for John Jones in The Oyster Band. (Well, not quite, but nearly. As Leon Rosselson says.) Also, although it's not a voice, those low pan pipes do make me shiver.

For my tuppence worth... Female speaking voice has to be Mary-Jane Tomasi (radio announcer her in Auckland) definitely a saucy chuckle behind it!! Female singer for me is Cleo Laine...she excited me as a youngster many years ago...heard her live last week and it's still there!!

As for the males..I don't play in that team, but what Liam Neeson (newer version of big Sean)
