Desiree and Tiger were lovers,
Lordy how they were grim.
He beat the hell out of golf clubs.
She beat the hell out of him.

He was her man, but he was puttin' around.

Some say he was just crazy,
Others say he was nuts.
He got confused in his playing
Mixed up his puts with his putz

He was her man, but he scored too many holes.

Bring out your rubber tired golf carts
Bring out your irons and woods.
Hang on to your balls and your putters
If you want to deliver the goods

He was her man but his iron was too long.

CBC Radio's "Content Factory" did a full-length parody of William Blake's Tyger (on The Current Dec 4, I think). I laughed. "When papparazi threw their spears..." I believe you can hear it free from somewhere around cbc.ca/podcasts. The refrain includes:

What immoral hand on thigh
Could frame thy lack of alibi?

I wonder if Ashley 'Tyger' Hutchings will cover it?

Tigers, Tigers burning bright
In the ball parks of the night
Your pitching's fair, your field adroit,
So why no pennants for Detroit?

You blaze around the big league parks
With bats that fairly give off sparks,
But when they total up the score...
You've lost again to Baltimore.

The Cleveland Indians go to work.
They beat you good; so does New York.
When Boston adds a mortal blow,
All you can shout's "Look out below!"

Tigers, Tigers, burning bright
In the ball parks of the night.
Someday the fans will get their fill
And ship the team to Louisville.

(Mad Magazine, circa 1961)

While in first place
And sitting pretty
You blow four games
At Kansas City

Many, many years ago in the 1960's there was an episode of American TV program called, "Dr. Kildare" staring Richard Chamberlin as the doctor in this weekly series. I was just a kid but watched the show with my parents. (thought Dr. Kildare was soooo cute)and asked my parents to take me to a doctor when I grew up that looked like Dr. Kildare. (ha, ha, didn't happen.)
Well one episode (I don't know or recall why it was recited) but this wonderful poem, "Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright" was read on this program one night. I still remember hearing this poem as a little girl from that TV program. Could be my father loved poetry and although he had never read that poem to me, he read many poems to me and so my love for poetry began early on.

I remember this poem from school too, but I got hung up on "fearful symmetry." How could symmetry be full of fear? It just didn't make any sense.

Like this thread. I am doing a story telling bit on 'Not the Tiger' this month. Might borrow a line or two. Here's one punchline -

What's an 'Arnold Palmer' drink?
A - Ice tea and lemonade

What a 'Tiger Woods' drink?
A- An order of 17 ice teas, but you only have one skinny little
      straw

FWIW, I bloody hate this poem! They blare it out recited very dramatically accompanied by Star Wars type music at the beginning of Hull City home matches where it couldn't be more incongruous. It makes me cringe everytime I hear it.
