Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: M.Ted Date: 08 Dec 09 - 08:21 PM Considering the fact that, on one level or another, we are all hypocrites, there really ought to be more songs out there. Be that as it may, consider this song There's No Hiding Place Down Here . Here's the last verse, which could give great joy in the right situation. But remember that it can cut both ways. Oh, the devil, he wears a hypocrite's shoe The devil, he wears a hypocrite's shoe The devil wears hypocrite's shoe If you don't watch, he'll slip it on you There's no hiding place down here |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: Nick E Date: 08 Dec 09 - 08:02 PM I can't think of one a tune name but surely Randy Newman has written something just right for the occasion! |

Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 08 Dec 09 - 04:47 PM Hi, Norman. I'm sorry to hear about your false friend. Fortunately, the perfect song for a hypocrite has been written. What you do is, you wish them an eternal life in Heaven with a rusty halo and a skinny white cloud. Listen to it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVM7EWIjt28 You can do it in a bluesy, insolent style if that serves you better. I've heard it done that way myself. |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: Phil Edwards Date: 08 Dec 09 - 04:45 PM I've sung Like A Rolling Stone with somebody very specific in mind, although the part about ending up on the street was fantasy in my case (and I hope it was in Dylan's - that's a cruel, heartless song). |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: lefthanded guitar Date: 08 Dec 09 - 04:21 PM Not sure what the reference is about, Sinsull. But before I read another bio, let me say taht I meant this in a general way: that everyone knows who Dylan is, but I bet few (or none, even Dylan) remember which person caused the songwriter the pain that inspired the song. |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: SINSULL Date: 08 Dec 09 - 04:17 PM lefthanded guitar - read the recent biography of Paul Clayton before comforting in Dylan's triumoh. It's All Over Now Baby Blue might work. Does your ex-friend have blue eyes? |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: Amergin Date: 08 Dec 09 - 03:59 PM There is a great song by Eric Bogle called A Good Man.... |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: lefthanded guitar Date: 08 Dec 09 - 03:56 PM 4th street is it. Probably someone did to Dylan what your crappy 'friend' did to you. Take comfort that Dylan triumphed over those who put him down- and you will too. |
Subject: RE: A song for a hypocrite From: Amos Date: 08 Dec 09 - 03:16 PM 4th Street is definitely it in this vein. Tom Lehrer probably has something appropos also. A |
Subject: A song for a hypocrite From: NormanD Date: 08 Dec 09 - 02:42 PM Anyone know a good song to sing to a hypocrite? To sing it on my own would be cathartic. To sing in their presence would be even better. I naturally won't go into details but let's simply say it involved being shat on by a friend. I hasten to add that it no way involves any website squabble from the past or present, just something from nasty old Real Life. Yes, I do realise that there are more straightforward problem-resolution approaches, and non-confrontational methods. But right now, I need a bit of distraction (the thought of them squirming.....unlikely, I know, but an amusing thought). Dylan's "Positively 4th Street" comes the closest. Any others? Norman |
