I just listened again, at YouTube. I believe you're right about "blues harp." It makes perfect sense.

**Blue sock** from the grocery store
==> Blues harp from the grocery store

Hoo-hoo-oooooooooo!!!!

Just came to me in my listening today. Only took five years.

Of course, I endorse your right to make a personal decision about the hoo-hoos!

I put the hoo-hoos in only because I thought it might help recreate the experience of hearing the song, for those people who either can't or won't hear it for themselves, or haven't yet heard it.

At least that's the best excuse I can think of right now.

I know what you mean, though, about yodel-ay-hees and the like.

For the same reason, I usually omit the instructions to repeat the chorus after every verse, or to play an "instrumental break here." I figure people are perfectly capable on their own to decide how many times to repeat the chorus, or whether, and when, to play instrumental breaks.

But, darn it, the bottom line is, there are some arguments for, and some against, printing this stuff. No matter how much I ponder the question, I seem to decide one way one time, and the other way the next time I post lyrics. And often afterwards I can't remember what the deciding factor was in any given case.

Good thing I'm not an air traffic controller.

By the way, here is the song at YouTube.

Jim,

I believe you have nailed it. As good as we are likely to nail it, barring somebody finding an original member of the band. Several of the things you found were ones I suspected, but I didn't want to influence anyone a priori. The "hoo-hoo"s I left off deliberately, cuz' to hoo-hoo or not is one I believe is a personal choice. Reminds me of Billy Connolly talking about a Hank Williams songbook that included the "yodel-a-dee hodel-lee-dee-ho"s in detail. Some things are best left to the individual singer to do their own fillips. ;^)

Thanks much for "Sears"! It's obvious once you know it, but it was unfathomable before. "Blue sock" sounds like what it is saying too. No idea on that one!?!

I declare it good enough to sing. Thanks again.

Subject: Lyr Add: FOLK SONG (from Farm Accident)
From: Jim Dixon

Hey, this was fun! I enjoy a challenge, and I liked this song. Here are my emendations:

FOLK SONG
Farm Accident

Through the air, a sound is sent
Don't know from where, don't know from when
Made my hair stand up on end
Folk song
Know you heard it, I heard it too
Little bit Dylan, and a Delta* Blues
Little bit of my Blue-Suede Shoes
Folk song
Folk song, folk song, hoo-hoo-oo

Lovers who did jump and fall
Farmer shoots his wife and dog
People gettin' killed, no reason at all
Folk song
Fiddle from Montgomery Ward
Sears guitar that plays two chords
Blue sock** from the grocery store
Folk song
Folk song, folk song, hoo-hoo-oo

The ship, the crew, the cargo lost
The union dues, the union boss
Dust bowl, famine, couldn't meet the cost
Martyrdom, hero, outlaws

This land is yours, this land is mine,
I heard a man ask "How many times
Must a man turn his head before he can see"
Big Hoover Dam starin' back at me
Folk song

You got yours, I got mine
Words that did or didn't rhyme
Folk song lost somewhere in time
Folk song
Play my songs and versify 'em
Sing my guts out, for just a dime
Wish someone would clap sometime
Folk song
Folk song, folk song, hoo-hoo-oo

Now listen up and listen well
Got a song to sing, got a story to tell
About a man threw his family down a wishing well
How they screamed and they screamed as they fell and they fell

I'll tell you about a man whose hands were steel
His back was iron his legs were real
John Henry's a song but he is not real
Now tell me true, John: how does it feel

Songs for folks, folks for songs
Somethin' somewhere sorta wrong
Play the Muzak all day long
Folk song
Folk song, folk song, hoo-hoo-oo

[* I'm not convinced this word is "Delta," but I don't have anything better to suggest. If you want to sing this song, you could sing "Delta"; it fits.

[** "Blue sock" makes no sense to me, but it sure sounds like what he's singing. I can't think of what else it might be.]

Sorry, robd, but I don't have the words.

Just posting to say that I love the album title 'Southwest Corner.'

Just a survey - how many reading this know about the southwest corner?

I know, this request sounds like a jest, but it is not.

OTH, I do already have most of the lyric complete. Just several places where I cannot fathom the words. So, does anybody remember this song from the eclectic Minnesota Band's 2nd, all but lost in the mists of time, album, Southwest Corner:

Folk Song
Farm Accident

Through the air, a sound is sent
Don't know from where, don't know from when
Made my hair stand up on end
Folk Song
Know you heard it, I heard it too
Little bit Dylan, and a Delta Blues
Little bit of my Blue-Suede Shoes
Folk Song

Folk Song, Folk Song

????, jump and fall
Farmer shoots his wife and dog
People getting' killed for no reason at all
Folk Song
Fiddle from Montgomery Ward
???? guitar that plays two chords
???? from the grocery store
Folk Song

Folk Song, Folk Song

The ship, the crew, the cargo lost
Union dues and union boss
Dust bowl famine, couldn't meet the cost
Martyr, Hero, Outlaw

This land is yours, this land is mine,
I heard a man ask "How many times
Must a man turn his head before he can see"
Big Hoover dam starin' back at me
Folk Song

You got yours, I got mine
Words that did or did not rhyme
Folk song lost somewhere in time
Folk Song
Play my songs and ????????
Sing my guts out for just a dime
Wish someone would clap sometime
Folk Song

Folk Song, Folk Song

Now listen up and listen well
Gotta song to sing, gotta story to tell
About a man threw his family down a wishing well
How they screamed and they screamed as they fell and they fell

I'll tell you about a man whose hands were steel
His back was iron and his legs were real
John Henry's a song but he is not real
Now tell me true John, how does it feel

Songs for folks, folks for songs
Something somewhere sorta long
Play the music all day long
Folk Song

Folk Song
Folk Song
