Sam and Ed, Geoff Wood, Brian Senior, Jim Potter, Paul Child and a whole host of characters and I rarely go!! all stalwarts of this club!

Living in Barnsley I more frequent Barnsley/Wakefield which have also resurgent folk activities, well supported

Hi Dave

The Grove is a fine club and there are plenty of other good music nights in Leeds - do make time to come across to The Topic in Bradford (Thursdays) and Raggalds Acoustic (nr Queesbury between Bradford & Halifax) as an alternative venue for Fridays starting 29th January with the bard of Calderdale & Kirklees, Roger Davies.

This 'Maid of Kent' thoroughly enjoyed 8+ years of living in Sheffield when it was' The peoples republic of S Yorks' & ensured the heir was born there so he could play for the County if ever called on & he's the one returned oop North. (Have lived much further North too so nowt wrong wi'life beyond the Watford Gap!)

Enjoying a drop of Wells' dark Satanic Mills (or Santas sllim as we call it this time o'year) as I type having just returned from a 2nd cinematic viewing of Morris: A Life with Bells on: Morris side in attendance & well received by a mainly t'other side of middle aged audience!

and I used to go as a newbie and heard Cyril Tawney there 64-67 and then have to climb into the college hostel cos i'ld been locked out

I know quite a few people who attend the Grove - fine ladies and gentlemen all! I'm sure they'll give you a warm welcome. Seems to be quite a lively establishment.

I've not got there myself yet (bit of a trek for me).

Had much fun at The Grove '71 - '72. Hedgehog Pie, Dave Burland, Swan Arcade, Peter Ballamy - he borrowed my guitar he did. Mr Green's Punch and Judy from Blackpool Sands.

Mostly Keith and Brian The New Heritage Singers. Can it still be that good? I bet it can

Thanks, Nick - I checked out the tametibles and they made no mention of that! Thanks for the info on the club web site all but I already had it because when moving to a new job it is the first thing I check:-) Much appreciated anyroads.

It won't be this side of Christams but, hopefuly, early in the new year I shall bring some Lancashire culture and class to the heathen Yorkists... :-P

If you go to the Grove, you will be sure of a friendly welcome from Sam and Ed and the gang. One of the longest and best known clubs in the north.

All the info I think you'll need. Seems across the Lancs/Yorks region there's a good network of Folk clubs, venues and sessions. The beers are equally enjoyable I'm reliably informed. Hope to explore the area more now I've a family link 'up there'. My Leeds link says the Leeds/Manchester trains run quite late too .....

Hmmmm is it time to move back up North .......... but wait, Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury have announced twice monthly Folk concerts from January so we're not quite so bereft now.

It's been going a long time. It was in the 1970's that I last lived in Leeds, and I used to go then.
Mind you it's not like it was in my day............ (probably- I've not been since, but nostalgia needs no facts!)

Tomorrow night is Xmas Party night

Next week the 47th Annual Holbeck Moor Mummers Charity Xmas Party. Highly recommended, but (usually) very busy.

Best not to leave early if possible.

Does anyone on here go the Grove? I have just started work in Leeds and my nearest pub is the Grove. From what I can see the club runs on a Friday night and I will definitely attend one night even if I do need to leave early for the train back to Manchester.

Anyone out there know it?
