We could not use the Spread Eagle because the Masons had prior claim - which is why we cannot use it as our exclusive venue, and the Rugby Club was staging its Christmas Panto (oh yes it was!). This left us without a venue for the Singers Christmas Party.

For me, the Sarries was the obvious choice, as Coard and Phil make all folkie sessions very welcome, and the pub is delightful. We'll be there on New Year's Day at lunchtime for a session if anyone wishes to join us!

Unfortunately, the layout precludes us from regularly hosting most guest nights there, as there are no doors to close. However, it's not really that different from the Rugby Club in that respect, though the Rugby Club has a larger capacity of up to 120 seats.

We have already expressed our wish to hold next year's Singers Christmas Party there, and I intend to take Singers Nights there fairly regularly once I've taken over the running of the club in November 2010.

It's always been our preference to run Singers Nights 'in the round' rather than in concert format, although 'Big Spot' nights are run concert-style.

Clearly it's not good that we don't have a fixed venue, as it does cause confusion occasionally! However, the Rugby Club and Spread Eagle are fairly close to each other, so it isn't too bad!

To the best of my knowledge, the RTF document which can be downloaded from the website accurately lists all our venues and events right through to Lymm Festival 2010 (and will soon reach beyond). The file is updated weekly.

what you could do with are Black Sheep that will go on all night with a Stallion thrown in for good measure!

Glad you enjoyed it Les. The venue is a great improvement to the replacement of the old Railway F.C. RIP. The way Bernard laid it out was a reminder of the latter. I was not keen on the Spread, hence only went once. What a difference this time. Let's hope a permanent move to the Sarries will prove worthy of consideration - hint....

A choice of Jennings Cumberland, Black Sheep and Bombardier certainly helped the evening go well....although the Black Sheep finished early on in the evening.

Lymm Folk Club

This is a great Folk Club. It has been going for years and years so I guess lots of people know it. I went last night for the first time for ages and although it uses a number of venues, last night The Saracen's Head in Warburton, it clearly takes its audience along.

Last night was a Christmas Special with Bollin Morris adding much excitement to a Singers Night packed with talent, variety and great chorus singing. The 'intros' and the 'outros' managed with great energy and not inconsiderable wit by the famous and sylph-like Bernard Chromarty.

The Saries also hosts 'Songs in the Snug, a brilliant Singaround on second and fourth Wednesdays - songs traditional and otherwise.

I urge anybody to check out theses two excellent evenings of folk songs and tunes
